Update: I went ahead & bought the 25-gal sprayer at Tractor Supply yesterday. Brought it home to try it out with just water first. A couple things had to be assembled, including the pressure gauge needing to be screwed into place. I screwed it in & it promptly split the threaded hole  It's a plastic hole. I may have gone overboard with it, but there was no instruction on how tight to make it. I should've started very light & tightened until no leaks, but you know, hindsight ...

So for now it just spews water through that crack, with a little coming out of the nozzle.

That is aggravating for sure. Stuff like that happens to me sometimes. Maybe Tractor Supply can get a replacement fitting for you. Gotta love that 24K plastic!

Take the whole thing back, this seems like a defect in the molding. Im sure they will make it right!

I agree, I would have already taken it back...they will make it right..don't you take that loss yourself...the manufacturer has a responsibility to make things stronger than that..

I called the store & they ordered the part. Should be here in 5 days. Hopefully it's not too difficult to swap out.

I actually got the last 25-gal sprayer of this model they had in the store (although this one had very obviously never been opened), so I'd have to wait for an all-new one.

If I have trouble replacing the broken part, I will take the whole thing back.

Just out of curiosity, how much ground will a 25gal sprayer cover?? I know there's a lot of devil in the details (application rate, height of sprayers, etc) but could you give me a ballpark WAG?? Gonna need one of these myself come springtime and with 4 acres, was wondering if this would work for me or if I need to go smaller/bigger... Not purposefully trying to 'jack your thread, but since the topic is open?? Thanks! :)

I have a 15 gallon sprayer and it goes really fast...it seems like there is no slow setting to be had..when you look at the sprayers look at the gallons per minute they brag about putting out...They think that is good but for me and probably you...not so good since we want to control where it goes, how fast and how much...mine just fires it out. Maybe someone who has one will post a way to slow the stream...I have tried adjusting the nozzle on mine but it still is gone in a flash..not like a pump up sprayer..

Here's a scan of the application rate page in my new sprayer's instruction booklet:

This all depends like you said on many things. But is really dependant on the label of whatever your spraying. It will give you a dilution rate and an amout of water to use it in. This will depend on weather your spraying grass thats knee high or 2"s high. The taller the stuff the more surface area so the more solution will need to be applied to any given area. Industry standards (terminology used in spray rates and on lables) refers to a fine spray as 28 gallons/acre and a runoff spray is 110 gallons/acre Coarse is inbetween those.

This does not mean that you mix up 28 gallons an acre to kill low weeds on 1 acre, you need to read the label to see what your chemical calls for as far as amount of concentrate in X number of gallons and the amout it calls for a given area. Trust me this can be drastic between chemicals.

Thanks for the replies bepp & clem, appreciate it! Will keep this in mind. Do you think a 25gal would suffice for ~4 acres, spraying for broadleaf weeds that I keep cut at 3.5"?? I don't mind do a refill during the process, but I don't want to constantly be running back to refill the tank...

I've got a lot of native bermuda on the lot, and would like to see it thrive by cleaning out the goose grass, plantain, etc. And 4 acres is too much to cover with a pump sprayer... :p
