Is this a fair deal ? JD2305 to a JD2320
2 month old JD2305, 30 hours on it, 200cx loader 53” bucket, ballast box, 62” mmm, lx4 rotary cutter.
Paid $14,325 for the package.
I put down $2,895
financed for 3 years at 0%
I have made 2 payments totaling $635
Total payoff $10,795

I want to trade it in on a new JD2320
The dealer would deliver a new JD2320, 200cx loader 53” bucket, 62d mmm
I would keep the ballast box and the lx4 rotary cutter.
I would have to pay an additional $3,140 on top of my payoff $10,795 for a total of $13,935.

So it looks like the JD2320, 200cx loader 53” bucket, ballast box, 62D” mmm, lx4 rotary cutter. Will cost me a total of $13,935 + the original $2,895 I put down = $16,830?
The 2 payments I made of $635 were for the use of the JD2305?

Is this a deal?
Or will I be loosing?
Or should I just stick with the 2305?

The reason to trade is I would like the higher ground clearance of the 2320 for pasture work and the larger tires would hopefully make the ride in the pasture a little smoother.

If looking at it strickly in a financial transaction, you would be loosing $$ - you would have to because it is now a "used machine" and the dealer would not give you full value for trade in....
The win part is getting what you want, and not looking back. If you decided to upgrade make sure this is the model you want or need (or maybe the next size machine?) - just my thoughts

Just hauled my 2320 back to the JD dealer for overheating problems. 16 hours is all I have on it. Depending on the outcome, I was thinking of upgrading to 2520. The difference in retail between the 2 tractors is about 2,400 according to the JD web site. I figured I might be willing to give 3,000 difference. But this is no deal. I know I will get hammered on the trade in plus I am buying in cotton country and they don't have to give a discount to the CUT crowd since they routinely sell the big stuff. The prior responder is correct--make sure the 2320 is your ticket. In my view, the extra dollars won't matter to you over the life of the machine if it takes care of what you need it to.

Perhaps you are under valuing the "use" portion. At $1,270 for 30 hours that only comes to $42. per hour. Would you rent out your machine for $42 per hour? Could you rent a machine for $42. Probably not in either case. If you value the "use" at even $100 per that comes to $3,000 and might make the trade look a lot more acceptable.

That looks like a pretty fair deal to me. I just purchased a 2320 myself and if I remember correctly the cost delta between the 2 units is around $2,200 so your 3 months of use on the 2305 only cost you about $900.

I was in the same position you were last year. I traded up from a 2305 to a 2320. Your deal doesn't sound too bad to me. It's one decision I will never regret, the 2320 is a far better tractor for my needs.

CinderSchnauzer were did you get $1,270?

Here is a better breakdown. The other looked to confusing.

2 month old JD2305, 30 hours on it, 200cx loader 53” bucket, ballast box, 62” mmm,
lx4 rotary cutter. Here is the breakdown
$14,325 Paid for the package. Financed for 3 years at 0%
- $2,895 I put down
- $635 I have made 2 payments totaling
$10,795 Total payoff

I want to trade it in on a new JD2320

The dealer would deliver a new JD2320, 200cx loader 53” bucket, 62d mmm
I would keep the ballast box and the lx4 rotary cutter.
Here is the breakdown
$10,795 Payoff
+ $2,895 I put down from above
+ $3,140 trade difference
$16,830 total on new unit

Looks like the loss is the 2 payments from above $635. But I got to use the tractor for 30 hours.
Is the trade difference to big? I think the JD2320 goes for $2,000 more than the JD2305 and the 62dmmm goes for $600 more than the 62cmmm

Just a thought. Have you thought about keeping your loader? (It's the same loader) and just getting the mounts on the 2320? That way you don't have to lose $$$ depreciated on the loader trade.

Okay I'm not great at math just trying to understand this one. If you put that original $2,895 into the 2305 and that left you with $10,795 for a payoff then why did you add the $2,895 back into your figure for the total cost of the 2320? To me it looks like the difference wouldn't be that bad. And you will be much happier with the 2320.

But like what was already mentioned...ask the dealer about putting the brackets on your new tractor and keeping the old loader and having him keep the new loader to sell it might sweeten the deal and save you a little extra. Either way it doesn't look like a bad deal...but I'm no math wizard.

I misread your original post. Thought you made 2 payments of $635 = $1,270

Seems like a pretty fair deal. I paid significantly less but only got the 200CX with 53 in bucket and a rear blade.

I added it back into the total cost because it was money out of my pocket that I paid toward the 2305. SO I would add it to the 2320 to show my total cost for the 2320. The dealer looked at the loaders on both tractors and said mine is still like new so it was a wash. Just leave mine on the 2305 and put a new one on the 2320. Basic trade loader for loader.
