Is this noise normal?

Thanks Jim for the page from the manual. Hope the copyright police aren't watching!!! Sure sounds like the mechanism in the valve assembly. Not sure what the situation is that's causing the rattling though. I know I hear it when the fluid is cool, but thought I also heard it when it is warm or even almost hot. I'll have to pay closer attention. Maybe a switch at some point to the multi-grade hydro fluid would have some effect. Not that this will justify the cost now, but maybe when I do the scheduled fluid change. Guess it another one of those minor things I'll have to live with. 'tis a shame when most everything about the tractor is so well made and the fit and finish so fine.

I guess being a little hard of hearing is sometimes a blessing. I've never heard this on my tractor. Also, I'm not worried about the copyright police since I'm not selling any info. I would even bet that showing examples of the Tractor Repair Manuals would only improve NH's chances of selling more copies. I know I would be the first to recommend a purchase to anyone who wants to do serious maintenance or just wants to understand their tractor better. It also could prevent a boon-doggle by a questionable mechanic (not that I think any of those exist /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif).

Sorry Jim, I was just kidding about the police. Working in a large company, I frequently get reminded about copying. Anyway, I really did appreciate the picture. It cleared up everything. Do wonder now how many hear this and why some don't. Don't think you'd miss it if yours did it. As I said, I'll have to pay closer attention to when.
