Kubota B7800
Folks,

I have a 30 hp 1 ton Kubota B7800 and I'm wondering what type of plow this is and how it would be for turning the soil. If I was buying new, I'd be looking at: 14" One Bottom Plow LB-81-14

The moldboard and cutter at the very bottom looks quite a bit different than the new plow. Would they perform similarly?

I could probably remove the left moldboard if it proved to0 taxing on the tractor. It looks possible to lossen the U bolts and slide it left or right for adjustment. What do you think... is this used plow worth a try for $150?

I think your B7800 would pull it. It would be a heavy pull. For $150.00 I would buy it regardless. That is an excellent price.

Are there a lot of rocks in Enfield CT?
Sorry, :D in my place (eastern ct) it's a bear to move anything through the dirt. Add some weight to that 7800.

Rocks would be an issue. I lived on rocky ground for many years. It makes the ground almost impossible to work with.

Sorry folks, I failed to upload the pic of the used $150 plow I'm asking you about. Let's see if this works...

Very few rocks here.

The shares look severely worn out. What brand is it? Can you get parts for it? The moldboards look really short and without much curve.... not sure if it will fully turn the dirt over. Did someone cut this thing down to make it easier to pull?

Wish I knew the answers, but no history is available on it.

The plow bottom is not worn out. I forget what that type bottom is called, maybe scottish or clay, I'm not sure. I don't know much else about it either, but if nobody here can give you a sure answer, try ntractorclub.

That is an odd shaped moldboard compared to what we use in my area. In my region, they will have a replaceable bottom lip, are taller and not as long. That one just has a replaceable tip. Can those tips be found anymore?

I think that is a Ferguson plow. Atleast it looks alot like mine. The plow shares are different, but the frame is the same. I found that my plow shares were scabbed on (not original, not Ferguson) after I had bought the plow. Still works fine for the limited amount of plowing that I do. If the plow shares are Ferguson you may be able to get parts for it. There is a place in PA that has some parts. If you are interested I will find the name for you.
Your horse power won't be the problem pulling this plow, the weight of your tractor will be though. I can pull my Ferguson 2X14" O.K. with my 35 HP tractor, but it weighs roughly twice what yours does.
You would probably have to remove one of the plows. You may want to do a search on this topic. It seems to me that there was a thread that dealt with converting a two bottom plow to a single. If I remember correctly it didn't work out to well for some reason. Still, $150 is a good price. I paid $200 for mine.

Here is a link with some manuals and info on the ferguson plows.

Thanks Mark. Would you say these are 12 or 14"?

I may be getting to the bottom of this :D. Thanks for the links. Ferguson AO Mouldboard Plows - Parts Book shows a Scotch plow that looks a lot like the one in my picture. According to the Ferguson manual, it has a 10" share, but I don't know if it would make a 10" furrow or be considered a 10" plow.

Thanks for the link. I don't know what to make of this Scotch plow. Maybe I'll give it a try. I think that's the only way I'll find out.
