I'm with you on this one Mr Diamondpilot..."The fix they listed above is a bunch of crap. It shows there is a problem and they know about it but want you to solve the issue by jerry rigging the intake box to draw air from inside the dog house area. What a bunch of crap!"...that is about the hockiest fix I have ever seen or heard of. They are basically saying yeap its gonna get snow in the air box so we are drilling holes in the cover and then funneling warm air into it so it will melt the snow...hhhmmm where does all the water from the melted snow go? I hate to say it OP but I think you got yourself a lemon on your hands.

Also warm air makes less power.

I agree. I have had to do this twice. I lost nearly 20K trading both my 2500 4x4 Hemi and my 3500 Dmax. It came down to I could not use them reliably for my business and was afraid to put my family in them for fear of getting stranded. It was a real shame with the Dodge. At the time we had it my wife drove it. We bought it brand new and I drove a Regular Cab F-350 7.3L 4x4. I had to go out and buy a used Saturn to tote the family around in because the Dodge was our only 4 door vehicle and I was afraid to drive in more than 30 miles from home.

What I am saying is sometimes you have to cut your losses and have a expensive lesson. Its a tough pill to swallow but for me had to be done and in the end I am glad I did.

I am stuck until Ford comes out with the 6.2. I do not want un underpowered Gas engine, and I don't really want a V10 knowing the new 6.2 will be here in 6-8 months. I am in a holding pattern and trying to get this fixed.... I am also hoping the spring will be easier to sell this thing.

I would be embarassed to show a client the fix that GM has posted in the TSB. But I think thats what you get from them these days.

I am with the others on this one, that fix is not worth a $h!t. I as well would be upset if i were in your shoes. I am not familiar with the intake configuration of a LMM Dmax, but would it be possible for you to locate on your own where the air is being initialy drawn in to the air box, and perhaps modify the inlet in a way that would reduce the amount of snow being drawn into the box. For example, if the snorkel is facing into the wind as the truck is being driven, cutting it at a 45 degree angle, corner to corner, to reduce the amount of snow being blown up into it. How about an aftermarket cold air intake kit {no pun intended} from AFE, or Bullydog.

I understand it would be realy frustrating to have to fix your new 50k truck yourself because GM won't. That being said, if the problem is realy as simple as snow getting injested into the intake, I would hate to see you lose all that money trading off a new truck if the fix was just an aftermarket cold air kit or an intake inlet mod.

P.S. Has your dealer cleaned the mass air flow sensor since your truck ate snow? A dirty MAF will flag a P0101. Here is a link that may be of interest to you. http://www.thedieselpageforums.com/tdpforum/showthread.php?t=31619&highlight=Lmm+P0101

What I do not understand is how is the snow getting past the filter? I can understand it getting into the filter area and clogging it but still it has a major design flaw. GM is really shooting their own foot on this one and loosing a customer.

I see this condition every year on at least one of our International 7400 plow trucks. It is usualy caused by a sleep deprived operator going into a 2 inch an hour snow fall without activating the snow valve. The filters get so saturated, that moisture is pulled through it into the engine intake. I have removed filters from our 7400's that have to be close to 20lbs due to them being absolutely soaked.

I agree completely with Chris about GM's solution being a crock of crap. That's the kind of stuff I would expect from a 1950's era vehicle.

To rub salt in the wound, My GMC dealer called me to come in as they had the parts they needed. It was stated that they did not have them all, but they had the improtant ones. I would drop the truck and get a loaner vehicle.

I got there and walked tot he service counter and the guy knew who I was. He is not my service writter so we BSed a little and he asked what he could do. I told him my writter called me in and his face had the oh sheet look.

Long story short, I waited for 20 minutes while they checked the parts that were there. The ONLY part that was in out of the 6 ordered was my new drivers side mirror. NOTHING was in stock to work on the motor.

This says a lot to me about the GM dealer staff. But, this is the best dealer around here.

I am not bashing anyone who works for a GM dealer! Most dealerships in my area have chosen to hir the cheapest staff possible and disreguard the quality of the dealership.

Needless to say, I am starting to think about getting a programmer for the truck. The name elludes me right now, but they have one that you can write your own code or buy stuff and it would help me with the codes. If I have to keep the truck for a bit, why not have fun with it. Plus, their might be a small chance it would not code out with the other program.

My warranty is next to useless now... So who cares.....

The program you are speaking of is EFI live. It is more than a programmer or chip, as it alows you to write your own maps for fueling, boost , shift points etc. It is a great program, but not at all aimed at a first time modifier. The mapping can be quite complex, and you can do lots of harm if you don't know what you are doing.
