Bush Hog Brand 6 foot Heavy Duty Bush Hog with slip clutch, and skid plates. The older models are built much more heavy duty than the new ones!!! In great shape and can demo for you by 36 years John Deere mechanic is the owner of this bush hog. Blades just sharpened up too! New they run approx. $3,500.00

Price $950.00

Oh, wait - you wrote decent.

/edit - I've been following used bush hog prices for years. It seems as price of steel rose so did prices of bush hogs. Steel prices came down, bush hogs didn't.

Actually, that mower doesn't look beat up at all. Weathered? Yes. But the deck doesn't appear to have dents much less evidence of welds. The mower hitch looks pretty straight too. Needs a good sandblasting and paint job but if it is a heavy duty Bush Hog brand mower it may well be worth $950. Some of the best deals in implements are those that sat in the sun for years but had little use.

Looks great, where is it? If it is within 250 miles from Naples Florida I would be all over it. Just not much in my area....

Is LSN (Local Shopping Network) active in your area? I've found it much better (and safer) than Craigslist.

Local Sales Network - Free Local Classifieds - Go LSN!

And all that said, we couldn't find a decent used 5ft cutter for my FIL, but did find that a new one was not really all that much more expensive. And NO sanding and repainting. Or replacing knackered gearboxes, tailwheels, or blades. It is very nice looking and he is proud of it.

And the additional peace of mind that it would work properly and not have parts flying off at dangerous velocities was priceless. He got over the additional $500 pretty quickly.

If there are any equipment auctions/farm auctions in your area, they're worth checking. I've bought a couple of mowers at the local equipment/farm auction and later sold them for the same amount after using them a year or two.

As far as Craigslist, the thing I've noticed is you have to search on multiple terms because some people call them brush hogs, some bush hogs, and some rotary cutters.

If you want peace of mind regarding risk of high velocity projectiles flying out of the mower, the answer is a flail mower. Rotary mowers don't throw their blades often but they do commonly eject stones, chunks of wood and other debris all traveling at lethal velocity. Flails don't do that.

THANKS! That JD Frontier 72" mower looks like a great deal. I have a Frontier finish mower that is just a green Woods mower.

Any thoughts on Frontier Rotary Mowers?

I believe that virtually all Frontier implements are built by companies other than JD. Woods is certainly one of the suppliers.

When I look at the left trailing edge I see a gap where the deck rusted out.

On the 5' one he's selling look at the near right corner.

They've been on sale for a long time, I think since last fall. Nobody else has thought they were worth buying.
