Re: IT\'S A BOY!!!...I Mean A Kubota!

Render unto Caesarian that which is Caesarian. And render unto Harv . . . congratulations.

The hilly precarious will replace the wholly vicarious. When will replace what. Ying will replace . . . well, I've had enough actually of the Chinese Olympic team.

One virtue of living 50 miles from a dealer is that it will be burdensome for you to steal into his lot in the middle of the night to covet and lust after higher-featured models, like some fool BX-aborter I know, who may in fact be making a Phoenician announcement tomorrow.

You and I seem to have entered tractordom and tractorbynetium at the same time. I look forward to comparing apples with you as our carts grow older (albeit never, hopefully, up).

Harv, just a thought, you could always pull your S-10 on the trailer with your Kubota!

Glenn -

After that last post, I had to go back to your profile to remind myself what your occupation was. Now I understand. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I lost track of the fact that you were a newbie like me. Yes, it will be interesting to compare our infantile misadventures (am I being too optimistic?) over the next couple of months.

Hope you can muster some pictures to share. I get a great kick out of seeing other board members and their machines.

I will now sit back quietly and wait for your announcement. I promise I'll be surprised. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

I was not anticipating ever taking the loader off. Harv, some folks never take their loader off, but I do; and a good part of the time. Some say they want the loader on there for front weight or ballast, and that's understandable. However, when I'm using the finish mower or tiller, leaving the loader off lets me maneuver in tighter places, and when I'm using the brush hog, especially on rough ground, the weight of the loader bucket that far out front causes the front end to bounce up and down some, so it's a lot smoother ride without the loader.

Re: IT\'S A BOY!!!...I Mean A Kubota!

I must have missed this post Harv so I'm a day late and a dollar short but congrats anyway! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif Now since I'm about 80 hours behind you I have a little seat time to catch up on. Now I expect you to pull way out in front the first week you get it home because I no longer sleep on mine and I expect you will (at least for teh first week), but we'll be getting snow here pretty soon and I excpect I'll do a little catching up then. (Don't think you see much snow out yourways!) Congrats again and best of luck, think you'll be very happy and impressed with what that thing can do.

About ever taking the loader off -- I guess I'll have to learn by doing, eh?

Thanks for the tip. For some reason I'm already developing anxieties about brush-hogging, but it's probably just my newbie jitters. /w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif

Dunno 'bout me pulling ahead on the hours. I haven't actually received the tractor yet, and since I'll only get up to the property 2 or 3 weekends a month, my hourage will accumulate slowly.

I do anticipate a few "extra" trips during the next couple of weeks. Gotta break it in, don't I? /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Snow happens only a few days a year where the tractor is. Not really a factor for tractor usage.

Re: IT\'S A BOY!!!...I Mean A Kubota!

BTW -- I gotta put in a plug for my broker who found this puppy for me. When I tried to pay the dealer with a credit card (a super-duper Platinum card my wife never told me about 'til that day), he said that his margin was so thin on this deal that he'd rather take my personal check than pay the credit card transaction fee. I asked if they normally cut it that close and he said, no, it's just something they do for Mike (my broker) once in a while 'cuz he brings them so much business.

He then went on to tell me that installing the loader would normally cost me $60/hour, but Mike insistied on doing the work himself (for free) to keep the cost down. The dealer thinks enough of Mike and his work that they frequently farm out similar tasks to him.

[Footnote here -- I thought putting a loader on and off was a relatively simple task, but I'm told that's only true after the subframe is installed, which is a much heftier task.]

Also, if that weren't enough, when I told Mike I was going to be up at "the property" this weekend (this was on Thursday), he went into high gear. When he ordered my implements (bush hog, box scraper, bucket forks), the supplier said they could deliver early next week. Yesterday (Friday) Mike jumped in his truck, drove out and picked them up himself (about 100-mile round trip).

He then drove to the big Kubota supply house where the loader was waiting and picked it up, too. Today he is bringing in some extra help to finish the installation and switch my rear wheels to the wide setting, as I had requested. His goal is to deliver the tractor himself either late this afternoon or Sunday.

The proof will be in the pudding, fer sure, but so far I would have no hesitation whatsoever about using this broker for any of my future tractor-related transactions.
