WOW..I feel better. Hey do I owe any of you guys for allowing me to get this off my chest. >>>>>>>

Photos of the new addition is all that is needed. Get the snow blade.

My dealer is 75 miles away, but I bought from him because I like his down home service attitude and the fact that he IS in the country, dealing with down home farmers. On my last service this week, after my tractor was done, I asked about paying him, he just told me to load up the tractor and he would send me a bill. On another note, I called the owner about how many tractors I had to buy before I got the free hat............he laughed with me and told me to go to parts and get a hat. I have bought 2 from him, and will buy again from him............see above post mentioning blade. I just have to convince the wonderful, lovely Mrs. that it is a great idea.

I have said it many times before. Show up in person with check book in hand and then determine if you want to deal with that particular dealer. When I had my stores, if we sold 50% of the bags of dog food that people called and asked if we had in stock and the price, we wouldn't have been able to keep it on the shelf. Calls are cheap and a salesman's time is valuable. If he has to spend time with you on the phone, then he doesn't have time to talk to the people that show up in person. Years ago, the telephone companies started a campaign to "let your fingers do the walking" to get people to use the phone more. It only works to a certain point, as you have learned. In most business's today, the telephone is a tool to work with customers. You know how you feel about telemarketers??? The people on the other end of the phone when you call, feel the same way. They will confirm that they have the product in stock and give you list price, but you need to show up to get the deals. I spent a lot of time on the road when I was looking for my tractor, but the only calls were made to confirm that the dealer had what I wanted in stock and that there would be someone there to talk to when I arrived. I made appointments with each one of them and kept them. If you are serious about wanting a machine, then you might try my method. If you keep trying to make the deal on the phone and not show up in person, you might find a dealer that is willing to do business this way, but they are not frequently found. If you want to deal only on the phone and get a good price, then call Messick Equipment in PA. Neil will be glad to take your money, but he won't be close for service though. That is his job... INTERNET/phone sales. Good luck with what ever you do, and let us know what you buy, how good a deal it is, where you purchase it, and finally if you were able to do the whole transaction by phone. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif In the automobile trade, people that try to shop by phone are known as "tire kickers".... don't know what they are called in the tractor business. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Junkman,

Well said. I found the same thing with my dealer over 4 years ago. With any big-ticket item with a negotiable price, face-to-face is the best way to go. At the very worst, if things don't go your way, you can walk out. Having a check in your hand tends to make that less likely. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Tractor_Jim_CT,

You sound very knowledgeable about tax laws, so I'm sure you know about CT's "Use Tax" as explained here in CT Use Tax

I understand about what you pay in taxes and feel for you. I just want to make sure you know that such "out of state" purchases are not "tax free". In "hungry" states such as yours and mine, it's getting easier and easier for the "revenuers" to catch up with tax evaders. I don't like these laws, but I'd hate to see someone get nailed because they were not aware of them.

In any event, sounds like you're going to get a great new tractor for a decent price. I'm one to always advocate "getting the works", so you might as well put what you want on it, including the heavy duty alternator.

$150 is the going rate for reinforcing the bucket with 2x3 angle iron, installing 3 weld on type bucket hooks and repaint. I thought it was high too at first, but some dealers get even more.

Bolting hooks on the top of a bucket that has not been reinforced will never be as strong.

You also want to use grab hooks, it is a lot easier to adjust chain length.

If you know a local welder you probably can have it done cheaper if you bring him the bucket, hooks and the angle (if he doesn't stock it). Then touch up the paint yourself. I had mine done at the time of purchase and they did a good job.

I could of easily done it at work myself, and maybe should have but I just wanted to get going on some urgent projects. Didn't want to bother with the hassle of removing the bucket, bringing it into work, finding or ordering the hooks. So I got lazy.

Also the dealer has been good to me and I guess it was my way of throwing him a bone.

Frank,
I find when you price a dealer down so close to their cost nothing is for free anymore... There is just no room in the deal. I'll agree that $175 is about $100 too much... but at these prices the dealer has little left for the friendly service niceties.

Regards,
Chris
