The barn repairs were finished Saturday night about 11:30pm and it looks great! It turns out that the repairs to the 'bump' were much more extensive than originally thought. The entire post wall at the overhang was way too low and couldn't be fixed properly without hand digging out all six posts, each of which was set 4' deep in rocky ground. At the bottom of each hole is a 12" diameter x 2" thick concrete cookie pad as a post base. Each post was excavated and shimmed at the bottom anywhere from 2" to almost 4". They then had to reinstall new steel clad on each post because the bottoms were now exposed below the steel. This repairs to the roof and overhang took almost two full days. The pic shows the finished overhang and roof with the new clean flow from trusses to overhang (no bump!)
I send the GC an email today telling him that i really appreciated his efforts and the excellent job they did fixing the problems. However, I also let him know that the I wasn't comfortable making the final payment of $6,500 until I had lien releases from him, his sub and the materials suppliers. The County Clerk shows a lien from the sub, but actually I think it is just the notice of intent to file.
I'll post some more pics as I get the waterer and electrical done, but for now, the barn is looking good and sound.
