Update. Still no firm date for the repairs, and the weather is causing damage to the poorly installed metal. I sent these pics to the GC today and asked him when the new metal would be ready and the repairs completed. We'll see what he says.

As you can see, the trim is folded bacl due to the 35mph winds we had the other day.

This is terrible and NO kudos to your GC. I think he sucks, too. If he is so concern about this, he should roll up HIS sleeves and fix what he screwed up. ...... He hired those idiots, so from my perspective, he screwed up.

This post reminds me of many years ago when my parents bought steel siding for their home. The installers did a pretty sloppy job on part of it and my parents were more than a little concerned. But then the young fellow who had sold them the job showed up in person, got to work, and fixed everything to their satisfaction.

I would assume that weather is a factor. I wish you luck.

Repairs are now set for mid-March, a timeframe that should avoid the worst of the winter weather here, except for the occasional snowfall. I'm OK with the date.

Next week I will actually be hooking up the water for the outside automatic horse waterer, and will take some photos of that project. The electric panel will also go in later in the week, but only with a single circuit for the waterer right now. The rest of the circuits for the lights etc. will wait for a nice clear weekend.

The wind is taking a toll on the poor barn. The other day we had a lot of wind and some of the soffit panels came out and were blown into the horse pen; Sandi wasn't a very happy camper. We've moved the horses far enough away from the barn that they should be safe from flying debris.

I've also attached a few photos of the horse waterer project. The waterer itself will be just outside the barn, bisected by a fence so the mares can use one side and the geldings and colt can use the other. It is a geo-thermal heated waterer with an additional bowl heater on electric from the barn. I still have to backfill, build the pad for the waterer and set it in place.

Since I was out there I took a few photos of Sandi's herd. The baby is a Quarterhorse stud colt and the big guy is a Percheron draft horse.

Guess what showed up yesterday? My general contractor arrived with a scissor lift, various lumber, compressor, generator, huge toolbox and a complete package of replacement metal skin for the barn! :D He brought his partner in the business and the two of them began doing the work themselves .

After the first day they had already removed the roof, reinstalled the metal over the trusses correctly and were working on correcting the 'bump' created by incorrect joining of the 10' overhang to the truss section. They expect to be completely finished before Easter Sunday.

In the first pic you can see the base for the automatic horse waterer, which is just about ready to be installed. In the second pic you can see the 'bump'. Either the ledger board at the truss seat is too high or (more likely) the post wall at the end of the overhang is too low. Raising the wall height shouldn't be too much of a problem.

I get to keep the existing metal skin to use on other projects . I'll post additional pics as the work progresses.

Rick,

That's wonderful news. I know you've had confidence in your GC from the beginning, but I must admit to haveing my doubts. Lost of jobs go bad, but it's rare to find a guy who will actaully stand up and do the right thing. I know he's taking a loss on this, but in the long run, he'll still be in business and the idiot he had do the siding will be unemployed and trying to find somebody to blame for his lack of work.

Rick,
Your GC will more than likely pick up a lot more work because of word of mouth advertising. You are probably going to tell all your friends and neighbors about your experience. He did a very good thing and will be rewarded for it in the long run. I spend a lot of time looking for the right people to hire for any work I need done and when I find one I use them as much as possible. I tell everyone about my experiences, both good and bad.
