:D I could not resist....

Your Poultry Predation Predicament(PPP) has had me thinking even more about our Chicken Protection Plans(CPP). I thought about getting a shotgun but then figured out that the Chicken Tank will eventually be parked at extreme shotgun range. This lead me to the idea of an AR 15 as part of the CPP. Said problem with this solution is night time application of AR15 per CPP hits the Wall of the Law.

When we first saw a coyote, way to close to the house, and not at all concerned about us, I looked up the hunting regulations. Which told me I cannot hunt coyotes at night. I don't want to HUNT coyotes at night. I want to KILL coyotes at night. Hoping I had misread I called up a Wildlife Officer, explained the situation, and he promptly told me no hunting at night. I did not bother quibbling with him over the term HUNT vs KILL. :D

The Wildlife Resource Commission had a survey late last year, or maybe first part of this year, about allowing coyote hunting at night with a light. I guess enough people have complained.

Because of your PPP, and our CPP, I went back and reviewed the NC statutes. While I cannot HUNT coyotes at night I might be able to get a Depredation Permit(DP). :D Check and see if you can get a DP to solve your PPP. The SSS solution, (SSSS?) of the PPP might be illegal so it is not recommended. :D

Game warden told me if its harassing domestic animals, fire at will.

There's always the SSS method, Shoot-Shovel & Shut-up.

This is what SHOULD be the law and what I was looking to find. But I could not find it in the NC statutes. The closest I got was the Depredation Permit. I have not had time to dig into what is required for the DP. But it is in my To Do List. I have heard of farmers getting a DP to shoot deer that were eating up their crops.

Hey, now the acronyms indicate open season? Or is this the straight scoop? So the fox can steal at will at night? SWAN????

Re: I've gotta kill that @#$% Fox!!!

as far as any game laws.......BUNK. trapping is difficult because a fox is just a very smart critter. Getting the horse crowd with the hounds or in fact any hound men would be a terrible mistake. They not only do not kill the fox they dam near worship them and would gladly put any one killing a fox for any reason in jail for life. I do know a way to catch mister fox, depending on what other creatures are about. I would NEVER do this and would never even mention it except that since some here are making jokes i will tell a good fox getting joke.
here goes: take a large treble hook say about 1/2 inch diameter around all three hooks. use some fine braided leader, the type used for fishing muskies. tie the leader to the hook then a good strong say around 40 0r 50 pound test fishing line to the leader. Now do not tie the fishing line to anything solid, a light grapple hook or even a small tree tied so it will be pulled top first is what you want. A ball of ground beef just big enough to cover the hook should be placed into a small hole dug at about a 45 degree angle about 1 or 2 inches deep then lightly covered with dirt. Now for the punch line. Mr Fox or Mrs which ever the case may be comes along and smells the ground beef, thinking that another fox buried it and wanting it for themselves they dig it up and steal it. Of course to hide the evidence they will swallow it whole. When they get to the end of the fishing line the hook will set itself and since the line is tied to something that will give a little pulling free is next to impossible.
Now is that not a funny joke? The problem is that it will also catch any thing that eats the beef. The reason for burying it is to protect birds.

Down here they F&W comission has a permit that they will issue to those who have livestock threatened by coyotes. That permit comes with a game warden, that's right, the game warden hunts the yotes with you.
It's against the law to kill a fox here, day or night.

I've got a dying cottontail call (shockingly annnoying) and I set it up when I had a buddy over last week (I have 2 tree lines to cover, need 2 shooters), we at there for 2 hours with nothing but an Owl responding.

I've already invited Bigfoot62, but any TBN'er is welcome to come visit and "target shoot" at my place... We can discuss what the preferred "targets" are when you get here...

My biggest issue is I can't just stop working to do nothing but hunt fox... and all the fox/foxes have is time to lie in wait for one of my chickens....

Making me look pathetic here on TBN it is...

:(:mad::mur:
David
Don't beat yourself up Moss.
Remember, good always triumphs ove evil.
Soon, your going to start thinking like a fox.
I expect to see dead fox pictures any day now.

AMEN Brother Bigfoot!

Legendary good time would be had by all sir.

Right now, I'm trying to smoke some ribs and a whole chicken, and do my over due 50 hr service, in a downpouring rain...

David

Here is the pic from last night as I was working on the tractor and smoking ribs/chicken at the same time, in the rain of course...

SLHawkins wandered by today in his smoking new F-450 dualie... Darned good to see that young man not in A-stan...

No sign of the fox today...
