Jawhorse & welding attachment

Ordered 2 of each, pretty good prices for what seems to be a useful device. One is for home and the others for my shop in the woods. The Jawhorse has a footpedal that operate the vise-clamp, they claim 2,000lbs clamping force. I've become pretty good at positioning an item in the vise, then twirling the handle with my elbow, don't know what I'll do with two free hands, except I'll have to learn to stand on one leg.

Here's Rockwell's pic of the Jawhorse with the "Welding Station" accessory attached. Three-legged stand appears to be stable enough to withstand two-fisted welding! On uneven ground too.

"Welding Station" attachment: normal $100, on sale $49 at Rockwell's eBay store (sale ends soon, maybe in a few hours). This thing attaches to the Jawhorse, and positions another item near the Jaws.

The Jawhorse folds up into a fairly compact size, and I guess you can use it like a normal sawhorse too. I spend too much effort welding on the ground. Looking forward to it.

Looks to be a very useful tool. It is interesting to me as I find that as I get older the ground is lower both getting down and getting back up. Is this possible?

Mostly metal, some plastic. I got one on eBay last December, with the Plywood Jaw for $139.99.

I've owned Jawhorses for many years. (Currently have three of them) They're ability to function as a '3rd' hand makes them mandatory for the majority of the wood or metal projects built in the shop.

They're so useful I routinely give them to people for birthday or Xmas presents.

Oddly enough even though I have the 'Welding Station' it's never been used though I use the Jawhorse for some aspect of every welding project I do. It's weight and wide stance allow it to hold heavy pieces of steel at all kinds of weird angles

I was afraid of that too. Just having a vise that clamps while allowing me use of 2 hands for positioning was probably enough of an advancement. Plus I end up welding on the floor a lot, then that evening it's like I've aged 20 years. So getting off the ground too.

I also thought of xmas presents. Tx for your post.

The JarHorse is heavy and all steel except for some knobs and stuff that is not consequential. But it is heavy, so other if it rolls around in your truck it may be able to breaks the plastic bits off. Also noticed that it has wheels and when folded up you can drag it along like a trailer (holding one of the legs).

Sodo, I,don't know if you've seen one of these hydraulic vices before. I have one mounted on my bench. Serial #02. Ten years ago I was a Canadian distributor for Posi Lock products when they first developed this item. The first one went to a trade show and the second one they were good enough to send to me. Hopefully I can attach a link otherwise I will take a picture of mine.

I've been using my jawhorse for a couple of years and can tell you it's better than sliced bread. Clamp any size or shape at any angle for easy welding.

You can hold the piece with both hands in the position you want and then clamp it with your foot.

Hi Terry, thats a useful vise, doubles as a hydr press too. I'd like to have one but currently I don't have a 'real' shop, I work at home in the garage, at work, and out at my barn in the woods. Not ideal shop conditions, stuff gets spread over 3 locations. That vise would be real handy and I would make good use of it!

Used mine for several years now - very stable on the three legs and easy to clamp with your foot. I never use my multi mates any more.

I saw the thread and bought two of the 9303 horses today. Lowes had them on sale for $99.00 and I get a 10 percent discount so I jumped. I used one today and I think I'm going to like it just fine. I'm going to make my own welding doodad so I can use it either on the Jawhorse or the Arcfit welding table from Miller.

$99 is not bad. I'll have to go get one now. Sold my old one a few years ago to a neighbor and always regretted it but didn't want to fork out $160 plus for another one. I remember the foot lever for the clamping sometimes slipped on my old one in a certain spot. I stripped it by stomping to hard clamping something , so I'll be careful with this one.

Yesterday used it to hold a chainsaw for sharpening. It worked so well I'll make a wooden jig to clamp saw bars.

Good idea, better than a stump vise, if you don't mind bringing it along
