JD 1040

A close friend of mine has a Deere 1040. This is a German-built tractor of the mid-1970's, has 45 to 50 HP, diesel. He is having trouble with the hyrdraulics and has asked me for help.

I cannot find out much information on this tractor. I find a great deal of 1020's out there but not the 1040. Both appear to have been built in the same factory and about the same period of time.

Does anyone know anything about this model (1040)?

In the older Deere Ag tractors the last 2 numbers were the series. ex.1010 2010 3010 were sister tractors. Same for the xx20,xx30 and as far as I know the xx40. What would be a sister(made at the same time) would be anything eding in 40.The first numbers had a relation to horsepower ex. a 1020 had less power than 2020. Please note there is a difference in the numbering systems between Agriculture tractors and Compact/Utility tractors. Anyone please correct me if I am wrong! When I was in high school I worked for a farmer with a 2640 that was a great tractor. I often use www.tractordata.com to find out info on tractors I am unfamiliar with. Which has almost nothing on this tractor.

What problems is he having?

Does anyone know anything about this model (1040)?

Didn't find much info but according to MachineFinder the 1040 is a full-size utility tractor, turbo diesel with MFWD, rated 48HP. Looks tough and heavy.

I have a 1040, great little tractor. Mines the 2wd version. I don't think that any made it into the US, they were a Canada/Europe/Australia only model.

What exactly is the issue with your hydraulics?
