JD-3035D first oil change

In the pointy end of TX. Downsizing from Case-IH 45A. Made great use of this forum with my first tractor (NH TC30) but first return visit after long absence. Now have JD-3035D. Operator's Manual specifies engine oil and filter change every 400 hours. Seems longish interval compared to what I remember from other small tractors previously owned. More surprising, should there not be an oil and filter change after the first 50 engine hours? Thank you.

I would definitely want an oil change at 50 hrs on a new machine. If the manual says 400 for an interval after that, then that’s what I’d do.

Yes, an oil & filter change after the initial 50 is recommended. Mostly to catch any debris in the 'system' from the assembly of the tractor.

I have a smaller JD and I think it says 200 hours or once a year. For me it’s once a year. Is a 50 hours oil change needed when new? Probably not but I’d do it anyway.

Thanks. If nothing else, will be good practice. At about 44 hrs now, and time I got familiar with it from underneath on my back. I like that this tractor has a very tight turn radius - but part of that I think is a short frame. At 6ft 2 in tall, had to move the seat back more than the law allows and still sometimes flip the turnsignal on with my knee.
