i didn't say baseline wasnt something to go by, I agree that is just a baseline . I see a lot of numbers thrown around on here for various lifts and capacities. Some tractors will do more than the manufactures claims, some will do less, I really see this in hydraulics. We run our bin unloading augers, bin augers, and belt veyers off a 5000 series Deere,we have tried case and new holland in the same size, 85 horse, they can't handle it, but they have never been known to have strong as hydraulics in there tractors, on paper, yes, real world no. That is just one example. Far as buying a tractor for moving round bales, that's common sense, There are not many tractors in the compact segment that can handle them, most people who bale got a pretty good idea of what there gonna use. None of that affects average Joe homeowner who needs a small tractor. As far as why people are deere loyal, it's is because of parts support, you can still go get parts for your old 2 popper Deere at your dealer, those tractors are 50 year old or older now, there is still a lot of them in use today on farms! I've been dealing with parts for agriculture for 25 years, from all the major players, Deere has them beat. As far as availability and how fast they get them. That is my part if the country. They also have better resale, that is easy to see if you are not a Deere owner! Also they have been around since 1836, you got to give them credit for that. And also do you know how many people grew up on the family farm that had a lold Deere tractor and equipment? Thousands, that is why there so proud. I'm not hung up on any major brand, but I call them how I see them, they all have flaws, and yes you got to pick the one YOU LIKE. Also, since your a LS guy, maybe you can figure this out, my local New holland dealer who my family has bought ag parts from since the fifties, sell new holland and mahindra compacts. When you go in there to get a compact they rather sell you a mahindra as a new holland, they say less problems, better warranty, and easier to get parts for, now LS makes compact new Hollands, what do you say? LUTTI don't think anybody has suggested the facts and figures as anything other than a baseline. Seems most folks are suggesting trying a bunch of different models until you find what looks/feels right. Still, if you need a particular capability, and haven't looked at those baseline numbers, you might wind up with a machine that won't do the tasks you require. Saying "Oops, this won't lift the round bales I need to move" would be a bad way to start out with a new machine because you didn't look at those baseline specs. Not saying this applies to you, but it does seem to be a common theme that the Deere zealots are the worst about claiming "those are just numbers" when the green machine is on the short end of specs, and they revert to boasting about dealer network, parts support, "better" engineering, and other stuff you can't quantify. Just so the Deere fans don't get too mad at me, I wouldn't be overly worried about plastic fenders...they even use them on full-size backhoes now.
