John Deere 3320
Twice now when I have woken up to plow the driveway my JD 3320 won't hold it's throttle...I will increase the engine speed to 2000rpm or more and it will just slowly drop back to 1200-1500 rpm. This has happened two out of the last 3 times I operated the tractor and the only commonality between the two times it did this was that it was probably under 20 degrees.

The issues gets slightly better after 20-30 min but the throttle won't stay above 15-1800 rpm.

Any thoughts on the problem? I have warmed up the tractor for probably 10 min or so after starting it.

Thanks

Does the control lever have resistance to being moved? More than likely nut(parts key #6) needs tightening to put more pressure on friction washers(parts key #3)

Look for the friction adjustment on the throttle. It should be where the throttle handle pivots.

It doesn't feel 'loose' when I slide the throttle up it has the same amount of resistance it always has.

Do you 'fix' this problem by pushing the throttle lever back up to where was? If so, then the lever is slipping and needs to be tightened.

My NH TC25D had the same problem and I had to remove the panels under the dash, tighten the nut and then I put on a lock nut or used a thread locker. Both solved the problem, I just can't recall what I did since it happened years ago. It could also be the friction material is wearing out and needs to be replaced.

I push it back and it immediately start dropping again...I have to hold it in place to maintain enough RPM

Then your 3320 is having the same problem my TC25D did. The nut needs to be tightened and a lock nut or thread locker liquid (the kind that does not need heat to remove the nut) needs to be used to keep it in place.

Thanks for the description. I shall see try to get the dash apart this weekend.

You can get a wrench on the nut that needs tightening without taking things apart. I've done it on my 3320. Poor design that needs readjusting occasionally.

Any tips for taking apart the dash?
