JD 4610 strange hyd problem

Hello and happy Friday to all. My JD 4610 has a weird problem. If I operated the rear HYD for a while, say scraping or mowing, or any condition that requires the selector switch to be set for rear HYD, when I change back to front for bucket loader work the bucket won't go up or down. It grunts and growls, but wont work. If I shut the unit off for a few seconds the problem clears and then the bucket will work fine. Any ideas? Thanks, Troy

I am not familiar with any "selector switch" on these models, is this a aftermarket thing?

Hello, the switch is on the side panel and is electric with a light that indicate red when the rear HYD are engaged. The rear consist of two cylinder and a third for powering motors or other stuff.

When the rear has been engaged for some while, and then switch back to front, front don't work unless I shut power off of engine then restart. Then loader works Great???

Sorry, forgot to mention that this is not aftermarket, but instead optional JD items installed when new.

OK, I got it...I forgot about the electric diverter setup they had, and called it the 4th and 5th SCV kit. Sold for about $1200 or so...

Here is my theory:

The diverter is operated by solenoids, and I suspect one of two things is happening,
1) The electrical connections that run the solenoid block could be a little dirty and causing a voltage drop and thus the diverter cannot operate. You could disconnect all the connections (relay, switch, ect) to make sure they are clean and apply some die-electric grease to them.

2) The internal spools of the diverter are slightly corroded and are not sliding in the bore easily.

One question, does the light go out or stay on when this happens?

You have it Kenny, I have had the problem you describe before and had to clean the terminals.

This is not electrical at all. The lights on the SCV switch work just as expected, red on for rear, off for front. Maybe rust on the spool? But why does it work if turned off for a few seconds and then back on? That is the mind blower.

Another theory on why it works when you shut off the tractor...

If there is rust/corrosion on the spools, the springs that push the spools back cannot overcome the resistance from it and the residual pressure left in the system both. Turning the tractor off may just relieve enough pressure to allow the springs to push the spools back.

I just remembered I have some pictures of my diverter that I had to rebuild for a simular reason, it would not push the spool to divert at all. I found corrosion on it when I took it apart.

Kenny, I will take that valve apart as this sounds like a likely problem. thank you for the pictures. They tell story. It may be a while before I get time to rip into it, but I will let you know what the outcome is.
