Reversing the wires on a speaker will "blow" them in the long term.
Negative MUST go to negative and Pos to Pos.
This is how you tell what leg is positive and negative on a speaker,,.....
take a 9 volt battery, (the smoke detector kind) attach a wire from neg and one from pos
on the battery, now touch those two wires to the speaker,
one on each leg, (just "short" touches as not to damage the speaker)
the speaker MUST extend "outwards" as you touch them, NOT inwards.
When they extend outwards, you have now found the correct polarity of that speaker.

I had read somewhere on here about doing the same. I can see the right speaker but it has some sort of cloth over it so I couldn't see the actual cone. Otherwise I would have done like you said. I guess I'll just have to see if my speakers last.

Good point about the 9 volt battery skyhook, I always forget about that one.

Ya, I learned that a long time ago when I took my electronics course,
Speakers are made to extrude outwards, if there hooked wrong and the volume goes
to high, going inwards, they'll blow.
You can tell if a speaker is blown by pushing inwards on it,
if it has that "scraping" sound while doing this, the coil inside is blown.

I know this is an old thread, but does anyone happen to know what size, ohms, and max watts the speakers are rated at that come pre installed in the cab of a 5100M?
