I have a King Kutter 5 foot mower that I bought with my used JD 1520. A friend of mine has a John Deere 513 mower. We discussed trading them. Both are in like new condition. I liked the 513 because it is green. He could care less, but the 513 seems lighter weigth than my King Kutter. I know mine is much cheaper in terms of dollar value. Any thoughts on comparing these two mowers?

I've not had personal experience with either mower (other than the 5ft KK at my hunt club which has seen much abuse and held up fairly well) but I've seen pic's of more bent up 513's than I have of the KK's. The KK has a pretty strong I beam used to make the sidewalls with. The 513 just has formed metal I think, but not sure what gauge it is. The rear edges is where they get bent up a lot from backing into stumps/trees/etc. If you are just mowing fields, then the 513 would do fine. If you are cutting some rough stuff, I think I would keep the KK. Jmho!

IMHO if the JD is a shear pin type I'd run away my neighbor had a 613 and was forever putting in the tiny shear pins. Plus I agree JD 513/613 mowers bend easily

Keep your King Kutter.
My last cutter was a JD 513. It was a piece of JUNK.
I replaced it around 5 years ago with a 6' King Kutter.
The King Kutter cost less and is twice the mower.
