I've been trying to figure this out for some time, so any insight would be much appreciated. On a JD 850 diesel with front end loader, there are 2 hydraulic levers: one for the bucket and one for the loader arms--and nothing installed for connecting ag equip. I have the immediate need to connect a JD 1217 hay bine which uses only a single hose with Pioneer connector. Is it possible, to break one of the hoses going to the bucket, install a Pioneer Male/Female splice there, choose between the bucket or the implement, and then be able to raise and lower the hay bine instead of using the bucket?

Also, does anyone have a diagram or advice on adding an additional valve and quick connects for ag. equip on the 850?

Yeah.. you could install a diverter in to the bucket circuit and select between... but keep in mind.. your haybione is SA.. the bucket is DA... You will want a line to vent to sump for the other side of the DA valve, unless you have an adjustment on it to turn that ckt into 'fast dump' / SA for the time that you use it on the haybine. ( Ford valves generally have this capability.. IE.. to run the valve as DA or SA with a simple adjustment. )

On my JD-1070 (bigger brother to your 850), I have quick disconnects for use when removing the loader for field work. All I do is run hose extensions from the haybine cylinders (2-way for tongue swing and 1-way for header lift). Snap them into the loader connectors and voila ! That's all there is to it. If you don't want to remove the loader, just unplug the pressure side of the bucket hose and run your 1-way cylinder.

Thanks for the info. One other quick question...my loader is a JD 80. The quick connects are by the clutch pedal, and they are of a smaller type than I've seen before, and much smaller than the pioneer one on the haybine. Is this also the situation on your JD 1070? and if so, what are those small connectors called? I live in the middle of nowhere, so calling around to find out who has what I need will be a huge help.

Are you going to try to cut hay with your JD850 and the haybine?

The JD 1217 is an old machine I found locally and rebuilt, and want to take it for a short spin to see if everything is moving right and looking good before first cutting, including up-and-down.

The 850 is my tractor which is right here where I have the hay bine. The hay endeavors I'm working out with a couple of other farmers locally involves their array of larger tractors and other equipment as well.

On the subject though...I had a JD 1207 haybine for years, which looks the same as this one to me, and I pulled it with Massey TO 35s, both gas and diesel, with good results. Do you think the JD 850 would pull it? I'm not sure if it would, might be slow going. There are times where that little tractor seems really gutsy, and others when it seems kinda tiny. I have cleared land with it for new pastures here, and the trees I've uprooted and skidded out have surprised me for that little thing. I've read on another website where someone was pulling a small Hesston round baler with one and said it went great, which I found interesting as well.

Anyway, I've found the right hydraulic connector, this morning, and I'm going to go see if I can get that extension hose made up.

Your 850 will run that mower just fine, probably 2nd range 3rd gear. Its lighter than my NH479 which I used to run with my 22hp Yanmar.

Put some front weights on it to make sure. Its not a power problem, but may be a nose weight issue when starting off.

Anybody who says you can't run that mower needs to upsize their pantyhose 'cause they are too tight (and maybe its too late as its already affected their judgement).

In fact, you can leave the loader on and just use the circuit for the bucket dump (curl) to run the header cylinder. The tongue swing is a better use of hydraulics, especially if you have to run down the road, go thru gates, or want to impress the neighbors on how close to a fence you can steer.

That tractor will pull your rake at max speed and also be able to run an older, smaller baler. Yep, there will be some who will argue back, do me a favor and show them once and for all they need a man-a-cure.

Don'r be in a hurry, just keep it at a fast walk....

Heck...after that glowing firm belief in the smaller JD, I'm going to cut hay with it just so it can prove itself! Stay tuned til first cutting, and I'll report back.

Given the price of fuel, it may even be the way to go if that little Yanmar proves efficient.

Just a note for the thread on this subject to say that getting a hydraulic hose made up with a female Pioneer adapter to fit the haybine, and a male to fit the quick connects where the front end loader attaches works great. I had to add about 5 feet of length since the loader connectors are up by the clutch pedal and the mower was configured to attach at the back of a tractor, but I just disconnected one of the loader circuits, hooked up the single hydraulic line for the JD 1217 mower/conditioner, and I was good-to-go.
