JD not dealing anymore?

There are still some big farms in the area, like everywhere else, a lot of bigger farms have been sold off into 10 acre or smaller lots.
There are still big tractors on the lots around here, more CUTS & SCUTS it seems these days to go with the dwindling big operations.
The last time i went to my dealer, i climbed up in a 9000 series, like being on top of the world(a tractor forum with no tractor icons thingies:eek:)

Those 9000 series tractors are very nice, I just can't handle the payment book that goes with them.

When you get into the bigger grain farms of 3,000-5,000 acres or so, the numbers and machinery requirements are staggering. A couple million plus the land price or rent. On the plus side, they only own a few pieces of machinery. Tractor, tillage, planter, combine, truck, a couple grain buggies and trade every two years. Hire out spraying and fertilizer and some hire out hauling.

The equipment roll is a lot of biz for the dealer.

My job takes me to many locations in Michigan. When I was looking for a tractor I must have stopped at 20 dealers. Many of those dealers wouldn't even come outside and talk to me. Of those 20 stops only 3 offered to let me test drive a tractor - one being the JD dealer, who quoted me list price less rebates.

One day I was driving by our local Bobcat dealer I saw a Bobcat tractor sitting in their lot, I called and found out it was for sale, after seeing the tractor a CT225 I wasn't sure it would fit in my lean-to, the salesman said he would gladly drop it off for a weekend , I could use it and also see if it would fit in the lean-to. Well that tractor is till in my lean-to:thumbsup:. Nice thing is I have texted messaged the salesman and he will usually responds within a few hours if not minutes. Sadly, good dealers and salesman are hard to find - probably not unique to the tractor business either.

The nearby plumbing contractor has a nice little Deere TLB...

I asked him about it and he said his uncle is a JD Dealer... said I was looking for something similar and asked for contact information at the time.

This is in Oakland CA and he went to Montana to pick up his tractor... told me he couldn't get pricing around here...

Not positive but I think the newest big tractors approach 400 gallons. Heck, I couldn't afford to top it off, let alone fill it.

To go from about a 6 quart to a 46 quart oil change would cost a lot too.
