JD rotary hoe?

second rotary style hoe ive seen on CL in 2 days. (diffrent ones mind you)

what are they used for? how do they work? what results do they give?

oh ya that one is 7' wide

Rotary hoes are intended for use on row crops like soy beans and corn. More so for beans. If after a crop is planted and you would get a hard rain, the ground forms a crust that makes it hard for the seed to push a sprout up through the crust. This is more important with soy beans because the crust will cause the seed sprout to "break its neck and die" The spikes break the crust allowing an easier path for the plants to emerge. These may have been used on other parts of the country but I only live here.

That looks like just a single section. There were usually used two to 4 sections wide and just pulled behind the tractor. New ones usually have two rows of wheels on a small walking beam axle and on a folding tool bar for 3 poinit use

I have thought about getting a single section like you have pictured and making a 3 point mount for seed bed prep. I think someone has done that in the picture you have. They are still around sitting in fence rows because they were so hard to move.

We still have our 16FT 3point JD rotary hoe sitting in my machine shed (I think its a 9000 series), We bought it in the early 90's for our beans and some corn, I think we have used it twice in its life, and we bought it brand new, they are not used alot, The paint on ours still looks like new and still has the green paint on the spokes,

We have been trying to sell ours for about 3years now, not a single person has been interested, I m thinking of sending it to scrap metal.
