JD seems to be too big for its britches

In the area I grew up in the local Kubota Dealer [ three different fellows ] all went broke.

So did some other major brands.

In my area the John Deere dealer provides great service and customer support at a competitive price. About ten years ago they stopped selling large farm tractors and equipment. Now they focus on "home owner" and light commercial. The market changed and they changed with it. You can still buy anything from an "L" series mower up to a 110 TLB. Maybe Darwin was on to something... /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Nice attitude. I always like how the dealer is supposed to bend over backwards for crabby customers, not make money on an obsolete product and such but the customer has no obligation to care about the business or the owners situation. You're the owner, you're rich, give me what I want right now and I don't care if you make a profit or not. I'm sure there are quite a few small businessmen on this site that see the same thing.

And yes most of them do care about the weather, broken parts, and low prices. If you're not making money then they aren't going to be making money. I've had my dealer come out and stay til midnight getting machinery going. I've had my salesman go in on sunday and drive 40 miles to get me a part. Do I expect him to make a profit, you bet. It isn't charity.

Crabby customer? Did this thread start off with a crabby customer or a dealer that did not want to show Soundguy any courtesy? Explain why they worry about weather? Why would they worry about broken parts, thats when they make money!
Why would they worry about low prices and charge the farmer whose back is up against the wall most of the time an arm and a leg. You might have a lovefest with your dealer during the night, but that is not the norm!!!

Geeeezzz! I just looked at your profile. With all that JD Green that you have purchased, I can see why your dealer is in the barn at midnight.

Perhaps now would be a good time to recognize that most of us are satisfied with our dealers, tractors and John Deere. If we weren't, the John Deere area of this website would likely not exist. I've had problems with my dealer and was able to work them out. I imagine most of us do. It's just plain ridiculous that this thread, initiated over a couple of cornhead, grease cartridges, has grown so long. Anyone who takes the time to participate on TractorByNet must have something nice to say. How about it Soundguy?

That's one reasone why I'm not griping as much as I wanted too... I've got a lot of ford / NH tractors, and got decent service from NH.. I've only got one JD.. and don't spend much monet there.. so i can see them not bending over backwards for me like my NH dealer does.. I did however expect just a tad more service.. but in the end I got my product from a petro dealer.. so all is well now.

True. Besides.. I like my JD.. it is arguable more collectable than any of my fords.

Actually.. I feel that I had a valid complaint... it was ridiculess that one dealer claimed that JD didn't even carry the stuff nor would they look it up.. same with my PTO gen question... the brush-off was the ridiculess part. The other dealer offered to order my 32 tubes.. I guess that was a half hearted attempt.. so i don't really have as much gripe about them.. however they also gave me the brush on the pto gen question... so they lost the business.. and northern got it..

( who takes the time to participate on TractorByNet must have something nice to say. How about it Soundguy? )

I like the tractors.. especially the industrial model stuff.. I'm looking out my office window at about half a million dollars of yellow deer road equipment.. with about another million in cat and other brands setting there as well. ( good products to be sure.. both the agg and industrial stuff... I've never had a grip about their quality.. it is just this customer-no- service issue that kind of put me off.)

From a marketing/consumer stand point.. They are on the wrong track to win me as a 'big' customer. As it goes.. and like most of us would.. we find a color.. buy it.. if it treats us well, we stick to it till a better deal comes along. It's likely I'll be blue till blue treats me poorly, or untill green comes up with a deal good enough to draw me away from blue ( or any other color for that.. I have nothing against orange.. or red flavors.... heck.. I like ALL tractors.. )

I consider the issue over as I found my 0# grease elsewhere.. same as my pto generator.. I got it elsewhere. However I would have hapilly purchased a der pto gen had one been available.. even at more money than the northern one.. as I 'feel' that green has more 'brand quality/reputation' than the unknown product I got mail order.

Was at my JD dealer today and I am happy to report that he sells cornhead grease by the tube and/or case. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
