Took a pic of the filter sock under a light magnifier, and found very little debris.. looks like some fine fibers or threads.

Thanks b.t. great photo.
Not as dirty or clogged as I expected. I've seen them blocked solid, especially on the diesels.
Pop it on the shelf for a spare.

Couldn't just leave the fuel gauge problem alone, pulled off the fender deck today to lift out the new pump to inspect for free movement of the float. Looked to be free so put it back in the tank hoping that it would work. It did not.
So decided to try the old pump and check that gauge out.. plugged it in to the harness and the old pumps fuel sensor worked great.

Called the dealer and have a new pump on order for next week. Will dry check it first, with the possible thought that the old X485 circuit (pre 40000) may be different and not talk to the new pump fuel sensor. Hope to establish what's up next week when the new new pump arrives.

Took all afternoon to connect to TBN. Glad to see it working now.

I'm glad you continued with this task while you have it all in-mind and clean bolt threads etc.

Yes, I was getting no access with a "Bad Gateway" error message. Pleased it wasn't just me.

Beenthere,

Are you saying that the new pump/fuel level sensor is bad or the wrong type?

Here is a pump from Amazon for $29. Has mixed reviews on the page. Here is the link:

And a jpg of the page:

He's saying the fuel level sender unit portion of the combined Fuel Pump & Level Sender combo assembly isn't working. His old sender still activated the gauge so we know the gauge is ok. The new pump part is ok.

He could combine them but shouldn't have to - The new combo is under warranty.

We don't have Amazon here (yet) so I'm not attuned to looking there for parts.

As Spanner posted, think I'll continue with the replacement and "hope" that this isn't a genuine mismatch of the electronics communication and the fuel level gauge.
If the pics of the Airtex was similar in wire connection and outlet length, then sending for it would be very tempting.. but it is only close. And I'm thinking it may not be for X485, as none of the specs line up (eBay has the same and may be the outfit supplying Amazon).
But appreciate your thought and input.

I know this post is about a year old but I am having problems with my fuel pump on my X485. The gauge has not worked in a long time but the fuel pump has been fine. The other day I parked it, got back on 3 days later and it was not working. When I turn the key on I am getting 6v (not 12) to the plug that plugs into the sending unit (3 prong). I have the service manual but gee wiz, it is not very friendly on showing where all the check points are for testing power (from actual sending unit all the way back). Does anyone know of a good video on trying to locate the source of my problem or any good photos that show the various fuses? I think F4 and F5 are the blue 15amp fuses on the board, They are both good. I will have to try and find F6 and F7. No idea where they are. Any insight will be appreciated. I can provide any photos necessary.
