Interesting point.
I guess I don't have an opinion on this yet. The only time I take my loader off is to service the tractor. So it doesn't really matter to me yet. I'm still mowing with my trusty old Wheelhorse.

WilliamWallace,

Really HIGH! For the 2210, 62MMM, 210 w/53" bucket, level indicator and ballast box, I paid $12,946 in June of 04 (plus 6% sales tax). BTW, would you be related to a Charles of the same last name in Manchester? If so, PM me. But back to your original question, there is no doubt you will be pleased with either machine. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I priced the 2210 at two Southern NH dealers and one was $12,500 and the other $12,900. This is for the 2210 and FEL. The 62" mower was $2000 at both. What surprises me the most is the lower priced dealer threw in loaded rear tires and a ballast box for free.

I ended up buying a MF GC2300 as I liked it more and bought the tractor, FEL and 54" mulching mower for $13,500. Check out this dealer for more info on the Massey - MF Dealer

Good luck,

I agree with JDFANATIC, That JD price seems REAL high.

Last fall I was quoted $13,090 for JD 2210, FEL, 62" MMM. At the time they were offering a $300 credit if you bought two or more attachments, which would have brought the price down to around $12,800. Add the $1,500 they quoted you for the bagger and you are at $14,300. That's within spittin distance of the BX price you listed.

BTW - Aaardvark is right. The deere does not have 50% more FEL capacity. The Deere measurement is taken at the pivot pin, Kubota another is taken either in the middle of the bucket or 24" forward of the pins. You have to dig, but you can find the Deere capacity at the middle of the bucket somewhere on their site. It turns out to be less than 50lbs different than the Kubota. I don't think you would notice the difference.

I found the BX too cramped and was about to buy a 2210. The dealer talked himself out of a sale. He went on and on about how a 4110 or 4115 would be better. I figured if I was going to look as small CUTs instead of the SubCUTS like the 2210 and BX I ought to look at them from all the brands. I found my B2410 fit me best and bought it instead.

If that price difference is the best deal you can get, and you are comfortable on the BX, I would buy it and put the $3,000 into more attachments.

If you can get the JD price down, go with whichever fits you better and the dealer you trust more.

Have fun.

John

I think the rated loader capacity difference between the JD 210 and the LA210/LA211 is 10 lbs for lift, but I'm going on memory. Both machines are rated 600 lbs at the bucket pivot pin, and the BX is rated 460 lbs in the bucket center (I had to get out my brochure and look it up). I don't know how far forward the JD bucket edge, but the BX's bucket edge is 20.9 inches from the pivot center, and it does 950 lbs of breakout force at that edge. The JD breakout was alot more than the BX from what I remember, like 80% more, but lift capacities were virtually identical.

Having used my BX now for about six months, I've realized the 10 lb rating difference is completely irrelevant. The 460 lb capacity will lift 95% of what I want, and the 5% the BX won't lift I'd need a huge machine for, something with thousands of pounds of capacity. Even then, the BX loader is underrated, as has been stated before on this website. Granted, if I had 20 acres I'm sure I could outgrow the BX pretty quick, although on 2 acres it's great.

edit - when I was looking for my tractor my JD dealer quoted me $14k for the 2210 and the larger mower deck (don't remember the size). Kubota dealer quoted me $15k for the BX23 and $1300 for the 60" mower deck. The MAssey dealer quoted me $14900 for the GC2310 but I forgot the mower deck price. The Massey was out of stock for at least a couple months, the BX23 was in stock, and the 2210 was just too expensive. That's one of the ways I ended up with the BX23. Actually in the end it came down to a decision between the BX23 and the B7610 with loader and hoe, and I went with the BX because it would fit on my trailer and I can tow it with my Toyota pickup, and it was just less expensive. I found the local JD dealers really didn't want to deal and were higher priced, but the Kubota and Massey dealers were very enthusiatic regarding making a sale. I'm sure it's just the dealer though, not JD policy.

Thanks folks, that helps a lot. My instincts were correct and these are very similar machines and should have similar costs. I'll work on the JD2210 price. The JD dealer gave me bad info about the loader comparisons. The brochures added to the confusion and seemed to validate the JD dealer's comment about the stronger JD 2210 loader. I will also get seat time in both. I'm not too worried about the ergonomics since I could adapt to either with use. The MF was never in the running since they do not have a bagger option. (The MF dealer actually got a bit testy when I asked about it. I think I hit a sore spot. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif) My lawn will grow three inches in a week during the early summer and bagging is the only way to keep the clippings from suffocating the lawn.

I personally have nothing against the Kubota. I looked very hard at the Kubota and the JD. Both are very good tractors and will serve you well. I liked a couple of things about the JD better, and in the end I bouth the JD. I think the most important thing is to find a dealer that you like and are willing to trust. My JD dealer ended up matching the best Kubota price in my area. Good Luck.

I agree Bob. The dealer is the most important factor.

I too was looking at the 2210 before I bought the BX. The local JD dealers (several) all had a huge superiority attitude problem. The Kubota dealer actually met with me outside the office by the tractors, and showed me the units and dealt with me. The dealer, more than anything else sold me on my Kubota.

I agree with Skivt. Here in Western Mass I was quoted $14,900 for 2210, FEL, 62" MMM. At the time I was comparing it with a BX2230 at $12,000., (July 2004)

Bought a B7610 for 15K with LA352 and MMM. For $100 more than the 2210, it is a lot more tractor, with a lot more loader.
Something you might want to look into if your JD dealer is giving you bad quotes too. I only have 1 JD dealer in the area. (And apparently, he sucks)

BTW: Went back and asked for sales manager at JD dealer after my B7610 purchase. Told him that they lost a sale, and how they lost it. He didn't seem to care.

I read on here of much better quotes for the 2210 than what i got, but not with my local dealer.

-good luck

Not every Deere dealer has an attitude problem. One local Deere dealer (Ontrac) offers fair prices. I think they discount all new tractors and attachments (bought at the same time) 15%. You don't have to ask or dicker, that's where they price their machines. Their service department is great.

They do a good job making you feel comfortable. Maybe its because they only sell small stuff, (I've never seen anything bigger than a 4410 on their lot) and they are used to consumers who are not wedded to a brand.

I wonder if the attitude problem is worse in shops that sell a lot of Farm tractors and bigger equipment? I wonder if they don't care about selling the smaller machines? Maybe us residential customers/weekend warriors are just too much trouble for them.
