JD4500 Problem

Good ideas here --- installing the cab and the changes to the main wiring harness involved with that --- could very well be the culprit.

I have had problems with added halogen lights and work lights that pushed my alternator to it's limits such that it couldn't maintain my battery over time when I used the tractor often with all the light's on.

When I'd switch the light's on; everything would drop-dim and I'd have to pull the rpm's way up to get any brightness and the alternator/voltage regulator would kick in and things would improve but if the rpm's dropped... Well, orange light from a halogen light is not a pretty thing at all!

I've also experienced having diodes fail on the alternator and it would (charging) kick in and out randomly and as a result would not maintain the battery charge over time.

That said, not having any fuse problems or melted-hot wires and such pointed away from a loose wire or poor ground issue... IMO.

But a good check on the wiring harness and whatever changes were made during the cab install would be a good exercise.

Akfish - No additional connections were made when the Curtis Cab was installed (I couldn't afford them). All the lights that came with the tractor are still on it. I'm leaning toward a grounding issue or at the least, a corroded battery terminal, etc...

Thanks for the ideas, though. I'm not ruling anything out until I figure out what is going on.
