I wonder where a L-5240 would set as a direct comparasion rather then the m-series for size as you were pricing different chassis sizes. I consider the 55 a large frame compact as there are a few differnences in the compacts and ag chassis..

I couldn't compare the L series since they only offer an LA854 loader, which only has a lift capacity of 1847 lbs. (bucket center). I need more.

The initial quote for a 4720 looked a tad high, but not all that much. $23,900 with a loader, assuming it's brand new, seems like an outstanding wonderful deal. If it's for real - TAKE IT - or let me know which dealer it is so I can get a 2nd tractor. I hope it is real. I wonder why the price would be so good - that's better than a quote I had on a 4320/400X just two months ago.

Roto, thanks for the specs.
For the price they quoted I'm wondering if it's a '06 model. I personally don't care if it is; I mainly care that it is new with a full warranty, and there are no changes in a '07 model. I'll for sure will know tomorrow. I still believe it's an exceptional deal even if it is a '06.

I am not aware of any changes from 06 to 07. That wouldn't slow me down one second. I just hope you don't find that there are $6000 in extra charges on top of the quote!

I hope there aren't any hidden surprises either. I don't think I'm going to get much sleep tonight. AAAHHHHHHH.

Then why are you looking at the Deere 400CX loader? Its 2380 at the pivot pin and probably around 1700 at bucket center (I can't find the honest bucket center measurment on the website). Sounds like you need a utility tractor to get the capacity you really need.

According to Deere specs, the 400CX Loader on a 4x20 Series Tractor is as follows: Lift Capacity at Full Height (112.8 in) Measured at 500 mm in front of Pivot is 2,571 lbs.

I was also looking at the spec sheet on the rollback angles, and some of those don't make sense either. That coupled with the "old school" loader mount that covers the side of the front hood, instead of the newer design of the frame attached to the rear axle, would make for a possible more intense maintainance operation working around that side bar. All of those machines are excellent, and you can't go wrong with any of them. Would like to know more about the Deere 400cx loader so I would understand more about the loader specs. I'll stop by a Deere dealer with dial calipers and measure the lift, and bucket cylinders to find out more. Neil is right I think, the numbers just don't add up, and could be a typo error.

Well, I just got off the phone with a different JD dealer and if there is no mistake in his pricing, I'll be picking up a 4720 tomorrow. His price for the same tractor is $23,900, and that includes a 400x loader. That's almost $6000 difference in the previous dealer's quote. For $600 more I can get the 400cx loader, self-levelling.
Is there that much difference in markup from one dealer to the next????
I'll find out more tomorrow.

I priced a 4720 cab tractor this winter and the "sale" price was $31,000 and that was without a FEL.
