Jerky LSeries 3pt Hitch Fixed

My L3700 is in the shop now for a broken pin on the BH77. Dealer said the BH itself was fine and did not need to be replaced, just the new pin. While it is there Im having them look at the 3PH. Mine will almost bounce the front wheels off the ground with a 72" land grader on the back. The first response from service was that it is a basic tractor and thus there is no adjusting the 3PH, so it is what it is. They then told me they know Kubota has a problem with them so they will contact the rep and see what they can find out.. Hopefully soon.

Thinking of an L3200 or L3800, has this problem been resolved on the new models? Kubota's ad says it has a new higher flow hydraulic pump in the new models.

Not sure the pump is the problem. I believe the valve is where the problem is.

Same specs over the years for the main/power steering pumps... 6.5/4 for L2800 L3200 and 6.3/3.8 for L3400 and L3800... The L3700SU is different with 6.8 for the main pump and 3.8 for the power steering. Pretty sure the "newer" models have NOT changed.

So i notice several people have got the issue fixed from the dealer. Evidence of this is posted on youtube and several other places. So what was done to fix it? Grand L valves, adjustments, ect??? I would like to know so that I may tell the service manager personally when I bring the tractor what I want to have done..

You would like to know, and so would at least a dozen or more of us here on TBN. The dealers are being remarkably close-mouthed as to what they've done, and I can say with a fair degree of certainty that Kubota Corporate hasn't even admitted there is a problem, much less endorsed these repairs or adjustments.

Those that have had their dealers address the problem have been lucky that the dealer recognized an opportunity to have a satisfied customer, as opposed to one that would give buying another Kubota some serious second-guessing the next time around. I think you'll find that the dealers "ate" any labour costs, or covered it off under another "repair".

When I approached my dealer about this, the service manager went to Kubota Canada for direction, and was told that "There IS no problem with these tractors, that is simply the way they work". They refused to support any work by the dealer to improve the situation, and stuck their heads in the sand for lack of a better term.

I have no problem with my dealer, in fact I'd recommend them. At least they tried to do what they could, short of eating what could have been days of labour, at the end of it MAYBE fixing a problem the company won't even acknowledge exists.

And that is the part that bothers me the most, the attitude Kubota Canada and USA has taken toward the whole thing. They've more or less said they really couldn't care less whether I'm happy with the tractor or not, as long as I bought ONE they're happy to have my money. I happen to have a long memory. If I ever buy another tractor I will most likely not buy that particular shade of orange again just because of that attitude. And that's too bad, because aside from that, the "economy" L series are VERY good compact tractors.

This is all quite interesting. In 2005 I called the dealer the day after they delivered my L3400 and told them about the jerky 3PH. They sent a tech right out and he said "That's not right".

He called the next day and said he found a fix on the Kubota web site. They replaced the valve and now it is much smoother. Not perfect, but fairly smooth.

I am wondering why Kubota is still using a valve that many people complain about. It sounds like Kubota has since decided not to fix these any more. Maybe my dealer ate the cost, I don't know.

Mine would almost jerk the front end off the ground when I first got it. If they had not fixed it, I would no longer own it. I'm surprised this issue still exists on the new ones.

I have mine loaded up ready to bring tomorrow morning. Hopefully I can get something done to eliminate the problem.

This would only help people with the original (2004-early 2006) really jerky valve. ...and not sure if it really would be much help.

The part I find "strange" is "Set Screw (3) and spool joint 1 (2) are adjusted to *very* close accuracy." of course this is done by some foreigner make their minimum wage most likely.

PS. the problem that never dies

Teg,

Unless I'm reading it wrong, these specifications are not the same as what Sean has set his valve up with in the "L3400 3-point hitch adjustment" thread.

How do you determine the correct specification? Is there a serial number break point?

If this all works out well. I'm looking forward to fixing mine, but I want to make sure I set it up right.
