Re: Jim\'s Pole Barn Project - hopefully

Oh, forgot one thing. I did have running water in the garage last night. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Before it starts getting cold. I'll wrap the end sticking out of the ground with heat tape so that it doesn't freeze.

Re: Jim\'s Pole Barn Project - hopefully

OK, I'm still going here. Just albeit very slow. $ right now are at a premium. We had really expected the wife to have a job by now, but that hasn't happened. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif So we are making due. I bought a couple of used garage doors for the front. Bought them from cousin. He had owned a lawnmower shop for awhile and they were in it. They had been up for about 4 years, but were only used for about a year when the shop closed. They then built a wall in inside of them for other businesses in the building. They've now decided to completely do away with the doors. At $75 each I decided to jump on them. The are Wayne Dalton insulated, with steel on both sides 9 x 7'6". I managed to get one up this weekend. I wasn't able to raise it as I needed to make some brackets to mount the spring to.

Here is a closer shot of the door. Was hard getting it up w/o a floor for it to rest on. Note: the color variance is the picture. That isn't there in real life /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Re: Jim\'s Pole Barn Project - hopefully

Here is an inside shot of the door. I made a little bit of a blunder when I put the insde header up. I'll have to a 2x2 or 2x4 or something up there to seal that when I get closer. Not a biggie. I live and learn. If that is my biggest mistake on this garage I'll be OK.

Re: Jim\'s Pole Barn Project - hopefully

Here is another shot of the inside. Sorry about the blurriness of it. Not sure if it was because I had the camera in "Night" mode or what. I've since gotten a bracket made to attach the spring too, but I was still having trouble getting tension on it. My cousin is supposed to come help me figure this out this weekend after I get the other door up. But after just having looked at Wayne Dalton's website, I may have put the spring on backwards, which means I'm cranking the spring the opposite way that it was designed to crank. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Re: Jim\'s Pole Barn Project - hopefully

Last one for now. A picture of how cluttered it is even though it isn't even finished. Normally my little trailer doesn't sit in there, but the other door is on it and I don't want all of the hardware for it getting wet. BTW, did I say I really like the size of my garage? How often can you park a car in the garage sideways and still be able to park another vehicle behind it? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Anybody see something missing? /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Re: Jim\'s Pole Barn Project - hopefully

Good eyes Inspector. Guess that is for catchin' all those electrical blunders huh? Yeah, had a slow leak in it for awhile, but hadn't done anything about it other then air it up every now and then. Was doing some backdragging with the FEL where I put the water line in a few weeks ago. Right front tire slipped into part of the line that went into the building. Then I managed to spin the tire on the wheel and broke the seal. Had a heck of a time getting the tractor away from the building. One being in a hole and the other wheel spinning but no tire spin. /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif I finally got the tractor to level ground. Raise the tractor with the FEL, put a stand under it, and through a come-along around it to get it to take air. Used the tractor again Sunday as a man lift around the door. It went off the rim again. Took it off the tractor and gave it to Dad and let him deal with it. Called me back Sunday night. Said it was fixed. Just leaking around the rim. I picked it up and put it back on yesterday. I'll see if it is still holding when I get home. Oh well, at least it wasn't a nail or a thorn. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Re: Jim\'s Pole Barn Project - hopefully

I was able to get the tension/torsion spring turned around last night. That was the problem. I had a left spring and I installed it as a right spring. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif I was able to put enough tension on the spring then so that you could raise the door quite easily /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif - almost /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif. When it gets just about to the top it starts dragging on something. Doesn't seem like I need to put more tension on the spring as it already takes quite a bit to pull the door back down. I'm thinking one of my tracks may be running in just a little to tight at the back. I didn't think about it last night (hey it was getting late /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif ) so I didnt' think about it then, but after sleeping on it that is what I'm going to check. What do you guys think, do you think I'm on the right track?

After finishing typing I just now saw my pun /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
