Re: Jim\'s Pole Barn Project - hopefully

Measure the distance between the tracks at a few points to see how much they vary. If they are different, probably an eyeball will tell you which one to move. The other thing is to make sure there still is tension on the spring when the door is in the raised position.

Re: Jim\'s Pole Barn Project - hopefully

Ok, I'll try that. I also thought that I would try the 6-8-10 approach and make sure both rails are running truly square to the wall.

Re: Jim\'s Pole Barn Project - hopefully

Jim looks like things just keep getting better and better at your place. Sorry I didn't repond to you last post promptly. Once bow season starts getting close I tend to disappear for awhile.

My tractor is doing quite well. I managed to put 56 hours on it in about 6 trips over to my property this past summer/fall given a few activities here at home as well. I really haven't done much with it for the past two months given bow season creeped up on me. I'm trying to get my butt in gear before the snow starts flying to get my 50 hour service taken care of so I can be more willing to start working with it again or at least playing in the snow when it falls. I'm going to take it down to Cross and Sons to have them look at the front wheel alignment. It seems like the left front wheel is not toed in like it should be compared to the right side. It really is noticeable when you are driving it and start to turn. One tire is turned sharper than the other and looks to be in a little of a bind. So I called Ansile and told him he said bring it down and he would take a look. I've checked my lugs, they're tight I just think the hydraulic arm is just a little out of adjustment. We'll see if I ever get down there.

My wife is doing well with her pregnancy. She's due December 19, 2004 so I have somethings to look forward too. My driveway is halfway done over at my property. I'm kind of disappointed in my excavator but he's giving me a decent break and trying to help me out on his spare time so I feel guilty for pushing him. Plus all this on and off rain we've been having is really screwing things up. Hopefully, hopefully it'll be done by the end of the month but will see. Good to be back on here. I'm sure I've missed a lot. I'm about to start catchin up on what I've missed.

Re: Jim\'s Pole Barn Project - hopefully

Jim, I'm building a pole barn too - - boy do I envy the size of yours. I went as big as the budget would allow. Oh well, it's a lot lot better that what I had before. Yours is looking great.
I'm also envious that you are building it yourself. And it sounds like you had some great hands-on help. I did my own work on our horse barn 10+ years ago, but did not feel I was up to this one.
Happy building.

Re: Jim\'s Pole Barn Project - hopefully

Glad you made it back to TBN, I was wondering what had happened to ya. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif Glad to hear that you are having fun with your tractor and no major problems. I'm sure Cross's will get you taken care of. I need to get mine back down for a couple of real minor things. The cruise control is a little goofy to set. Sounds like the magnet is out of adjustment and sometimes the parking brake will slip off - usually while the tractor is idling and acting as my portable flashlight. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif Not a biggie, I was just waiting on grass growing season to finish. I probably should give them a call and get it fixed before I need it for snow removal.

As far as the garage, $ are pretty tight right now so progress has slowed a little bit. I was looking at some of the electrical stuff for it yesterday at Lowes. Will have to confer with Jerry and see if he agrees before I start to buy. I've bugged him enough via PMs that I think it is the right thing, but I wanna make sure. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Getting close on the baby - both of you had better get some sleep now. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Maybe he/she will show up a little bit early and be on my b-day (13th). /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif We wish you the best. It'll be a pretty fun Christmas this year.

Re: Jim\'s Pole Barn Project - hopefully

Thanks for the compliments. Other than a couple of sheds, a deck, and an occasional helping somebody out, this is my first building project. Certainly bigger then anything I've ever tried to tackle before. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I know the feeling on budget. I really wanted to go 36' wide, but trusses became cost prohibitive then. I do wish I would've gone 32' though, I then would've put a 16' & a 9' door out front so that it could've been 3 car. I can still get 3 in, but it'll be a bit harder to do.

As far as building it goes. It has been a lot of fun, a lot of hard work, and we've saved or will have saved a ton of money when it is done. Nice thing about having someone else do it is speed. By the time I'm done, it'll have taken almost 2 years (we're at about 14-15 months now). I've learned a lot in the process. Made a few mistakes, had to do some corrections but nothing terrible. Good thing, in the process I've gotten to play with the tractor a lot and got some new toys errr....tools. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Jim\'s Pole Barn Project - hopefully

I guess I never said what I was having it's a girl. I'm thrilled either way. Just hoping for a healthy one.

Ended up taking the tractor down to Cross and Sons today. After I had plans to take it yesterday. I some how blew up or fried my father's electric brake control box yesterday when I hooked up my trailer. I checked fuses and nothing was blown so I bought and installed a new one and managed to get it down to the dealer this morning. I don't think my F-150 would like me very much if I pulled her all the way to Jackson so I was able to get Pops talked into letting me borrow his truck.

Never took any pics with my tractor loaded on the trailer yet so here's a few for veiwing. Good to be back on TBN Jim. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Jim\'s Pole Barn Project - hopefully

( We think we are going to build a pole barn to serve as a garage for car, truck, and tractor as well as my workshop/tool storage. We are looking at going 30X48. Unfortunately where we wanted to put it was where my existing 8X16 tool shed sits. I said no big deal, I'll empty and hook the tractor on and away we'll go. Nope. Just bent the hooks that I put into the 4X4 runners. Also decided the tractor wasn't big enough. Put my tow strap and 2 of my racheting tie down straps around the 4X4 structure of the shed and hooked to the truck. Nope. Called dad he brought his truck hooked it to the shed. Nope. Hooked my truck to his truck hooked to the shed. Nope, just had 8 wheels spinning. I was getting frustrated. Not only wasn't where I wanted it to be, but wasn't where it was either - and I had cut the electric to it. For whatever reason I decided to hook the little tractor to the front of the train. Low and behold it moved and we moved it rather easily now. I think what really happened the tractor put weight to the front of my truck and allow it to bit better.

Here is a picture of where the shed had been sitting. )-------------------------------
Does the shed have skids /
If so all you had to do was use 3 or 4 inch plastic pipe for rollers under the skids.
