Thanks, for all the info...Ron Mar, that was a thorough explanation, I appreciate that, and will check every one of those items out.

Last summer, I was sure to blow out the radiator from the back, then I put the AC filter in front of the radiator.

I willl start by blowing it out again, carefully.

Affordable, the tractor is an '06, will the battery box work with that. Seems like a great idea if simple enough to do.

Let me check all this out and then post again..

Radiator may need to be taken to a shop and cleaned out. Passages may be corroded up, limiting water flow/heat dissipation. Then as someone said, need to check temp with an accurate thermometer to make sure your guage/sending unit is working properly. Good luck.

I had a little time today so I pulled the battery and inspected the radiator.
Just as had been advised in this forum, the radiator (at least the part behind the battery) was really full of micro-crap. First I tried compressed air, not effective. Then I tried vacuuming with a bristle attatchment. Still nothing.
The crud would not budge. So, I then soaked it with a hose, which really loosened it. Then I used the pressure washer carefully...boy did that radiator clean up.

Then as advised, I got a flashlight and checked to see if all was clean. It was.
Since I had the hood up I used some degreaser and cleaned up the whole engine, checked oil.

So, the tractor is not overheating at all now, temp stays normal even when it is way hot outside.

I had checked the radiator last year, and blew it out too. I then put a blue mesh AC filter in front of the radiator. Even with the AC filter, I am here to tell you that the micro crap still gets in there, and this little operation should be done regularly if you are mowing or brush hogging.

Really do like my 224/Koyker 160, so far(had it about 3 years, 150 hours now) it has been very reliable. It gives me a good feeling to see how much work I can accomplish. It does the work of 20 men.

Anyway, the moral of the story is check the simple stuff first. Duh.
