Jinma Chipper Feed Roller Connection Problems

I bought mine used for a grand and it came with a set of spare knives that appeared to be very worn. Took about 5 minutes on one of our surface grinders to make them 'new' again.

With as many (Chinese chippers out there and the cost of replacement knives, I shoud offer a knife grinding service, we have the equipment to do it easily.

Not really. Every Woodmax Chipper is an imported Chinese chipper anyway. I bought mine used for a grand. Show me a Woodmax for a grand... you can't.

Shoulda, coulda, woulda don't count IMO.

Nothing wrong with the Jinma a little 'help' won't cure.

I'll do just that. Far as I can tell it's a sturdy unit. I'm inputting at least 2 times the recomended pto power with no issues. I'm running this on an ag tractor, not a compact. Like I said, I had to extend the base 7" (with angle iron legs) just to get the PTO in alignment and so far, I've chipped at least a dump truck full of wood chips. I have about 10 years of catching up to do with our trees and it sure beats a burn pile. A very good investment far as I'm concrned.

Going to modify the feed roller lift assembly this winter to match the later models. Mine has the single lift handle on the right side and I'll modify it to the single, centered handle lifting both sides of the feed roller similar to what your new models have, which IMO, is a better arrangement.

One issue I has was the bed blade (anvil) sits proud of the bed recess and presents a ledge that branches tend to hang up on when feeding. I took out the bed blade and ground a chamfer on the backside to allow the branches easier entry. I realize I loose the capability of reversing the bed blade but regrinding the bed blade is a simple matter of removing it, taking it in the shop and putting it on the surface grinder and squaring it. Both of our grinders hold 0.00001 not that thats important.

Other than that, really no issues other than the infeed roller driveshaft, which is fixable. What I'll probably do is give you a call and order a replacment and modify that one with greasable U joints. The one I have presently can be greased via push fittings in the crosses but it's wallowed out pretty bad.

I wonder if there is a market for knife grinding. The one grinder we own can handle dimensional work up to 25" in length by 14" in width at any angle up to 90 degrees from vertical.

Just curious in as much as the knife sets aren't cheap.

And the "little help" may differ. On mine I've a bolt hole on the chute that was drilled wrong and if it bugs me enough I'm going to have redrill and tap.

But my thinking is I'd like to find the parts CHEAPLY to make it a 360 degree rotating chute.

Has anyone ever converted there mechanical drive feed roller to a hydraulic feed roller?if so what kind of costs are involved and how did it work out? The mechanical drive on mine is a piece of junk. Been through three sets of stock ball type u joints. I completely rebuilt the driveline using heavy duty universal slip joints from Sears craftsman tools and it worked great for a long time finally just broke that too. I saw Tommy had the upgraded driveshaft I wonder how that works. And if it's any more durable or still problematic

Fill it (with weld) drill it and re-tap it, no big deal. I lik the woodmax style rotating chute but it's not a deal breaker. I suspect that woodmax orders enough from China that they can specify certain changes. I get inquires from Chinese companies constantly wanting to make me parts...I delete thm all.

The Jinma is cobbly but it works and thats the bottom line.

I could have went to the local box store and bought a gasoline powered chipper that would maybe run some twigs (I don't consider the box store chippers to have much capacity, a 5 horse motor don't have much grunt in the first place) for 600 bucks or buy somthing that runs PTO power for a couple grand, but this one appeared on CL one morning so I grabbed it.

You don't find many used ones. That tells me that while they might not be perfect, they do the job so owners don't sell them.
