Jinma chipper problem/question

/ Jinma chipper problem/question #21
I just got my Jinma and have been going over it.....
I had read about the poor grease nipples. Of the 6 pillow blocks there were only 2 in place. they fell out in my fingers before I figured out what size of wrench might be needed. Oh well 6 6mm zerks @ .65. Not bad.
Mine was missing lock washers for the 3Pt pins. good thing I had some spares.
Now for the real question about the flywheel and shaft postion in the bearing.

It looks like the shaft needs to go further towards the tractor. Can anyone confirm that this is in a bad position or good?

Sorry to hijack your Jinma post....but these problems you are talking about are why I went with a Canadian made chipper: "Wallenstein". It's well worth the extra money to not have to spend more time being a chipper mechanic instead of a chipper user. I also much prefer the direct drive and 4 reversible cutting blades.
Again, sorry for the hijack....I just could not help myself

Yes, that raised portion of the shaft, needs to sit against the pillow block bearing.

Happyman, for the $2500 or so less I paid, for the amount I use it, I can do a little chipperwrenching :D (but it sure was aggravating sorting it out at first)

AlanB, I hope the "sorting " is done and there aren't any further problems :) . Anyone out there have any decent hours on their Jinma? I'm curious about on going maintenance of the unit. I tend to be one of those that is willing to pay more for something if it means better performance and longevity. Even though I'm a decent mechanic, I just hate loosing productive farm time when my equipment decides to take a vacation  .

I don't see how there can be any further maintenance on the Jinma then there would be on any other similar machine.

At some point, it is pillow blocks, a big shaft spinning a big weight.

I am betting my maintenance problems / issues are going to come when I feed it something it does not like (nails come to mind)

If the chipper was an integral part of our business like the mowers, I may not have gone this way, but the chipper is just to get rid of the waste for us, and if it piles up for another day or week or really a month, it just does not matter that much for us. That said, I sure hate working on equipment when I expect to be working with the equipment.

I'll 2nd that the shaft needs to go further towards the tractor. Mine looked just like yours and caused clearance problems between the blades and the housing.
I'll also say that since I fixed my problems the chipper has been working very well.

The best I can tell from the pic is that the shaft placement in not correct.

If that is true ??........ the drive belts could be out of alignment or they will be when you correct the shaft placement. Which then means to will have to loosen and adjust the drive pulley or pulley's.

I sell the orginial Jinma chipper and sell 99% of them serviced. Meaning they are ready to put to work.

We find all kinds of things that need to be tweek / adjusted and not the same thing on every one . We also offer a industrial belt upgrade at the time of purchase. If the machine has been set up properly from the get go they make a good chipper. But I can also see where some could have problems not having all the things needed setting on the shelf. Our prep takes longer that just putting together. Knowing what to look for makes a big difference.

Give it a good going over and it should make you a good machine.

Thanks for all the help. It turns out that most of the 'slack' was in the pillow block mounting. One of the bolts on the pillow block by the flywheel was not tight and the block was such that you couldn't get any kind of wrench on it. I loosened all the shaft set screws then positioned the pillow blocks and the flywheel so the blades were parallel to the anvil and the shoulder was against the bearing. When all was tightened up (with locktite on the setscrews) I had about 0.040 clearance on the blades.
Now to take it up to the tractor this weekend and hope the PTO shaft fits....
