Hello Folks,
I'm new to the forum and hope you don't mind me jumping right in? I've already found all sorts of useful threads here about these cheep Chinese tractors that have been really useful, thanks!
So, a friend of mine had his tractor sitting over at the mechanic for a year, finally he gave up waiting and said to me, if you can fix it... You can have it!
It's a Jinma 245 with a Y385 engine... At some point the oil pump gave up and he took it to the mechanic when it started knocking.
Well, I got the sump plate off yesterday and it's not pretty, the thrust bearings were sitting in it as well as an ugly metallic sheen.
I was disappointed to find out, that to get the upper sump off, I had to split the tractor and pull the flywheel, but that's how I spent my Sunday!
The oil pump was definitely the cause of the problems, the shaft had sheered internally.
This has distroyed the bearing in No1 cylinder (the crankshaft is a little scored and the con rod is just fine) and all the crankshaft bearings look great... Except for the one by the flywheel, that spat out the thrust bearings.
So... The questions...
Has anyone found a workshop manual for these engines? It'd be great to know some tolerances.
Would the knocking of No1 cause the thrust bearings to fall out?
Are the Thrust bearings faces meant to be flat? (the one at the rear is convex and there is a concave groove on the face of the crankshaft)
Would you bother rebuilding this engine? The guy who owned it already bought a new oil pump, big end and man bearings... I suspect I'm going to need a new crankshaft if that bearing face is knackered and it doesn't look like an easy job to take out?
I read somewhere that Catapilar use a similar engine with the same bellhousing shape... Has anyone thrown a different engine in a Jinma?
