Looks real good,

Question for Tommy and others who have done Clutches and or Splitting,

1. The Clutch assembly is it easier to assemble it on the bench and adjust the clutch plate bolts on the bench rather than on the engines? (page 11)

2. When reassembling two half's, if you leave the PTO engaged and turn the PTO SHAFT by hand it will turn the transmission shaft and help it align into the clutch assy, correct? This could be added to page 12.

What I found is that the clutch assembly is several pieces and is held together by the bolts that hold it to the flywheel. In order to do the adjustment it needs to be bolted to the flywheel. The clutch covers the bolts that hold the flywheel onto the engine. I suppose you could bolt the clutch onto the flywheel on the bench, adjust it, then unbolt it and put the flywheel on the engine and the flywheel on the clutch but I'm not sure what that gains you.

You can adjust the PTO clutch and get a rough setting for the drive clutch once the clutch is on the flywheel, but final adjustment is done relative to the throwout bearing so that needs to be done with the tractor assembled. If you make sure that the clutch fingers are all the same distance from the throwout with the tractor split you can do the final adjustment at the clutch pedal linkage, which is simpler than adjusting the fingers, one setting instead of three, and you remove the chance of messing it up by adjusting unevenly.

I just adjusted it once the tractor was back together, I didn't find it that challenging. Others may differ.

It's in there already:
To get the transmission shaft into the clutch you need to apply pressure while rotating. You can
either rotate the engine by putting a 27 mm socket on the fan belt pulley and turning clockwise
(make sure the fuel supply is off) or you can rotate the transmission by engaging the PTO and
turning the PTO shaft.

Must have missed that one in there on the PTO shaft rotating...

On my manual it states to adjust on bench the clutch prior to assembly onto tractor for proper adjustment. Maybe 284 is a bit different?

This is GREAT!!! Thanks for posting it. I saved it to my PC. Is there a guide like this for rebuilding the 3 point lift on my Jinma 284? I purchased a kit from one of our vendors last year because I must raise my brush hog every 5 minutes. I have been waiting for a rise in my confidence to do the job as I could not find a detailed guide for doing the job. Thanks again.

My thanks to quicksandfarmer and jbrukardt for putting this "Splitting Guide" together. My Jinma 284 has ben leaking oil between bell housing and engine as well and I have been dreading the thought of having to split the tractor. With this guide I feel sufficiently confident to tackle the job. Thanks again for your effort.

that sounds like your cylinder is leaking down. No guide specifically for that, but generic cylinder rebuild guides should do the trick. I think Tommy sells the rebuild kits.
