I was in a wood area today cutting alittle path for a neighbor. The 110 is a nimble machine, I was able to get around well with out damaging the the large trees I was manuvering around. I did get hungup on a steep slope though not anyware close to being with out movement. The challenge was not to dig up a nature landscape. The idea was to cut the crest of a hill off, place that material in a low spot to facilitate getting up and down the slope easier. All without tearing up a most beautiful place. Did the job well. This is a place that a larger machine would not have been able to go.
I have not dug a stump yet, though I see no problem with doing so. In the past I have dug alot of stumps, some that end up on being blasted out of the ground. Some of them were burts that I did dig with a machine that was about the size of the 110 much less sophisticated and much older machine [1959]. Dig wide and leave enough of the stump to push on.
The largest I recall was a 17' in circumfrace, so imagine what the root ball looked like. That was done with a 4500 Ford that had a large hoe. The bucket was 54'' from tooth to back of bucket kind of a diagonal measurement. That bucket was always dragging on the ground. The 110 bucket tucks up out of the way.
I have no intensions of digging big one anymore. I always felt that stumps were alot of strain on the machines. But I'm sure the 110 will dig a 1',2' stump with easy. That size I will continue to dig unless..... I were to use the stump grinder attachment that I've hear you can rent. I spoke to a JD dealer in Maine. He said that the grinders require a minimum of 12 gpm, he warned me not to be mislead. That the stump grinders require heafty flow, though I understand that bobcat skidsteer loaders have them available for their machines. The 110 comes with skidsteer attachment plates and hydralics are an option to the front loader. May be worth looking into if you have alot of stumps. My be just the reason to buy the 110. If you hear anything regarding stump grinding performance get back. Bushy....... Forgive my spelling and grammar.

Well,it has hit CT soil, even though the dealer was closed yesterday I swung by and there happened to be a salesman there, and lo and behold my 110 was there also,he walked me over to it,I gave it a good once over, yep, all options accounted for,he gave me the keys, took the ol' Phantom for a spin and a quick dig w/the hoe,a quick back-blade w/the loader, and put it back in its resting spot for the weekend.Of course it has to be pre-delivered still, but my salesman called me later to say he'd bring it home w/him on monday night and deliver it to my shop first thing tuesday morning....not gonna be gettin' much sleep the next couple of nights, but at least this whole ordeal is all most done, and I can start workin' stead of bitchin'!

Tags,

After all thats taken place, are you SURE its your machine. Perhaps its JoeReal's machine and they delivered it to the wrong dealer....../w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif Afterall, that would be a fitting end to this story. Good luck Tags and happy tractoring!

That's right. That's probably my tractor. We Mainiacs are always the last to get anything.

Joe Real and Tags.......
In time you will have your machines and I believe that you will be happey with the 110. That skid plate might be a good investment. There is a lot of clearance under there but also a whole heap of plumbing. Be mindful of that when your in uncertain areas.

Even though my deal is struck I'm considering seeing if the dealer will through in a mirror, slow moving vehicle sign or a locking gas cap.
do they offer locking caps? The little bit I've been on the road a mirror would be useful.

Another thing I noticed recently, the 110 has brake lights. Yap, you apply the brakes and your back lights go on.

You guys are going to love the performance of the loader as well as the backhoe. That repositioning switch is the cats meow. I was doing some digging in a barn today some what tight, you don't want to bump any thing and I drove the tractor from the backhoe seat right out of the barn slick as a whisle. Did a three point turn. The joy stick and steer wheel well in reach. The powersteering is effortless.

With the backhoe I was able to dig right up to the edge of the siding of the barn and able to see the furthest point of the bucket. The closest I've been. That saves alot of hand work.

I'm looking forward to hearing from you guys regarding your performance comments when you get your's. Well can't wait till tomorrow, another day with the 110. Bushy

Bushy,
I did order mine w/the skid plate and the stabilizer gaurds,I would be afraid to use it especially w/out the skid plate,if a stick popped up or you highsided on a rock/stump it would be all over.....get the skidplate it is a $400 investment that could save you thousands of dollars and alot of swearing. One more sleepless night and I'll have it,when I saw it the other day I had forgotten how sweet it looked,I'm like a kid on x-mas eve!!

I must just have bad karma or somethin',or someone at Deere just hates me ALOT,because at this point this is beyond tollerable.I spoke w/ my salesman about noon today,he informed me of the following things...no 4n1 bucket,no 2' hoe bucket, and no 3 point hitch arms and top link, granted I was miffed, but he said they had a 2' bucket there that was compatable and they had a call in about the 4n1,and they had called Deere and the three point stuff is being overnighted, sounds good right????? WRONG,I then got a call from the salesman at about 5:30,he said that he had just left the dealership........ without my machine. He said there was a problem with a valve on the loader,he said that it would drift down when driving and also after the machine was shut off if the loader was in the air it would drift down,he said they found this out while doing the pre delivery checks.I told him when I ran the thing around on saturday there were no problems,he continued to tell me they "seem to be having a problem getting the part" right after hearing this I'm not sure what else he was saying because my blood had reached a temperature that I'm sure should have killed me.........then I attacked.........saying this has been the most !@#$%^& unpleasant experience I've ever !@#$%^ had,and that there is absolutely NO !@#$%& excuse for the machine to have come in w/out all the things I had ordered especially since it !@#$%& came in a month and a half later than the original date they had promised, someone should have been on top of that, they had PLENTY of time to confirm the order,BLAH,BLAH,BLAH.......So the end result is no 110 even though its at the dealer, but I do have a skid steer w/a harley rake comin' and a JD 50 excavator till I get it,which shows the dealer knows this is a BIG problem and is trying to help.My only problem now is I'm left wondering, whats going to go wrong with this thing next....is there anything else that can???

Hey Tags, was reading about a fella with a bad loader bucket on his 460 loader and came across this thread. My little bit of experience with the JD 110 was underwhelming at best. Its not a bad little TLB, just seems like a lot of gloss and glimmer but no real potency. Maybe I've just been running my JD 210 and JD 310/hoe to long and just can't downsize. The bang for the buck was missing. Maybe I just had a weak one. The hoe was nice, the loader a little weak and the hydrostatic drive just not enough. I'm sure it will be the bees knees for some folks though, just not for me. Hope it all works out for you, you did sound a bit frustrated. Hard to believe its taking you a month to get it. Saw a real interesting machine called a Earth Force 3 or 4 or 5 as I recall. The fella that was using it seemed rather new with it but man, it was one very smart little tractor. Part backhoe, part skidsteer and part tractor, its going to be real interesting to see if those show up on the jobs. I think its sort of a "jack of all trades" tractor but one that may do all the trades quite well.
