I was in a wood area today cutting alittle path for a neighbor. The 110 is a nimble machine, I was able to get around well with out damaging the the large trees I was manuvering around. I did get hungup on a steep slope though not anyware close to being with out movement. The challenge was not to dig up a nature landscape. The idea was to cut the crest of a hill off, place that material in a low spot to facilitate getting up and down the slope easier. All without tearing up a most beautiful place. Did the job well. This is a place that a larger machine would not have been able to go.
I have not dug a stump yet, though I see no problem with doing so. In the past I have dug alot of stumps, some that end up on being blasted out of the ground. Some of them were burts that I did dig with a machine that was about the size of the 110 much less sophisticated and much older machine [1959]. Dig wide and leave enough of the stump to push on.
The largest I recall was a 17' in circumfrace, so imagine what the root ball looked like. That was done with a 4500 Ford that had a large hoe. The bucket was 54'' from tooth to back of bucket kind of a diagonal measurement. That bucket was always dragging on the ground. The 110 bucket tucks up out of the way.
I have no intensions of digging big one anymore. I always felt that stumps were alot of strain on the machines. But I'm sure the 110 will dig a 1',2' stump with easy. That size I will continue to dig unless..... I were to use the stump grinder attachment that I've hear you can rent. I spoke to a JD dealer in Maine. He said that the grinders require a minimum of 12 gpm, he warned me not to be mislead. That the stump grinders require heafty flow, though I understand that bobcat skidsteer loaders have them available for their machines. The 110 comes with skidsteer attachment plates and hydralics are an option to the front loader. May be worth looking into if you have alot of stumps. My be just the reason to buy the 110. If you hear anything regarding stump grinding performance get back. Bushy....... Forgive my spelling and grammar.
