John Deere 2040 with Open Center valve on FEL

I think plug in your last photo holds a pressure relief valve in place. When looking inside the control valve at orifice in photo can you see a seat inside valve housing that an o-ring(item 10 2nd photo) could be utilized for sealing when a closed center conversion plug is utilized? I found no valve match Googling numbers on valve body in your photos.

It looks like they just pulled the part number AW17949 (see post #64) and replaced it with a plug. I think you need P/N W25405 TxJim found earlier.
Or a plug similar to this

Yes sir I think a closed center conversion plug with correct inner seal will correct your tractors hyd problem. I found that fact out the ""hard way"' back in the 70's when I served as a JD dealer service manager

Thank you much to you guys. I’ve ordered the correct part (I hope) online, and will be waiting for it to come in. I’ll update when it gets here and I try it out. Looks like some time to spend cleaning this thing up and re-plumbing the mess that is these hydraulics...

What P/N did you order?
If it turns out to be the wrong part. Try finding the complete CC valve, P/N AW20889. I've seen posts where a guy buys a JD loader, and it comes with a CC valve and he needs OC.
You would want to get key 21, P/N AW17949 to put back in your valve. Maybe the guy that sold you the tractor has this part?

Update time.... I purchased the cc conversion plug on eBay and it arrived yesterday so I installed to test, and it did not work.

I'll pull it all down again next week, when my new hydraulic filters come in and I can change the oil (hopefully getting rid of the last of the water) and see what I can see.

Did the seller replace the OC plug P/N AW17949? Seeing it might show how CC plug should be made.
At this point I'd probably buy a replacement CC valve.

The seller didn't do much other than get the tractor running before I bought it. They are a re-seller.

I'm going to look for the valve and see where that takes me.
