Welcome to TBN:D

-Does the yellow PTO light on the dash light up when the button is pulled up?
-Does the lever that selects rear and/or front PTO move smoothly?

The PTO is electric-over-hydraulic, so there is a solenoid on the transmission that gets energized for PTO operation. You will need to find this solenoid and make sure it's getting power.

Well the lever is stuck. It looks like it is in the rear pto position. I pulled the switch on the dash up and down but did not see anything light up?

You will need to do the electrical test I listed above...Have you checked the fuses?

I have a TYM, so admittedly a completely different tractor. When I first got my tractor my PTO lever also once got stuck. By first engaging the PTO I was able to move the PTO selector lever. Grinded a bit, but was able to un jam the selector lever.

Probably at least worth a shot.

Good luck.

OK, I have not found the solenoid yet. I will look for it in the morning. The tractor is in my grandpaws shop. I only saw a small box with 4 fuses in it by the engine compartment. I took a test light and put it on the top of each fuse. One did not have fire on either side but the fuse did not look bad.

Also, I did try to move the lever with the pto switch in the up and down position. Thanks

These are for a 2305 which may be similar to yours.

I have a 2210 as well, and I don't believe there is any light for when the PTO engages - at least not that I know of. I hope the problem is minor/inexpensive.

I think I have big problems. I took off the cover and parts of that housing were busted off. I guess I will have to buy a brand new housing. Any ideas on the cheapest place to get one?

I think I need part # LVA802797. I think its called transaxle housing. Local JD place wants $1700 + shipping.

Yea, see attached picture. You can see where its busted. It looks like I am missing another gear or something else also. There was nothing touching the pto shaft. Anybody know of a more affordable way to fix this? Where do I find these parts diagrams.

The diagrams are available free from www.jdparts.com after you register-it takes a little getting used to but if you think like a "parts guy" then it come easy, it's the same system the dealer uses.

What did you pay for this machine? Was is a private sale?

I can see the future, For sale 2210 cheap!!! Seriously I would try to get the previous owner to split the cost with you. If he won't I would call him lots of names and burn down his house;)

Disclaimer- This is for entertainment purposes and NO ONE advocates burning anything down!!!!!

I hope at least $1700 less than it was worth.

Well how much is the tractor worth? 2003 with 706 hrs, and 210 loader.

I was told the pto did not work when I bought the tractor but he just played it off like he did not know why. He said he just used the tractor for dirt work. I know that the cover has been off before because I should have seen the missing gear and broken off pieces. I bet he had it checked out and decided to leave it alone when he found out how much it would cost to fix.

Ask the local dealer if he can look up the serial number and see if it has been in the dealership before. If it has and they diagnosed it, I wonder if you could sue him in small claims for selling a tractor with a KNOWN defect.

At least the previous owner could give you the missing gear!!!

wonder if this was a case of
"ptoshafttoolongitis"

a terrible condition to encounter,
and certainly doesn't sound like
an unknown problem.

It is hard to tell by the pictures, but you may have hit the nail on the head.

First, I'm not whining! I'm just asking for advice on the most affordable way to fix the tractor.

I was hoping to get some unbiased opinions on the worth of the tractor. I paid $4,100 for the tractor. So, even though the guy was not totally honest, I don't think I got ripped off. I knew this was a possibility but at that price I thought it was worth the gamble.
