John Deere 345 Time Delay module, Can it be bypassed (jumped)?

I got a JD 345 with the symptoms, crank but no spark. From what I been reading on other post this is a very common problem that is caused by the Time Delay Module. I will pick up the part #AM128906 module first thing Monday. While I'm waiting is there a way to bypass or jump out the module to see if it's the problem and if so what wires do I jump? Would like to be able to try this before spending the $20 for the module.

Are you sure that you have this module on your particular 345? They don't all have them ----

The FD590V engines don't have this module --- the FD611V engines do. So, from memory here, I think your serial number needs to be above 070000 for you to have this module on your engine.

Yes I have it, on the left side of the engine, below the fuel filter. I would like to test it before I spend the money on a new one.

Sorry, can't help with a test for that module. The tech manual for that model should describe how to test it. I don't have that manual -- guessing you don't have it either. At $20 or so, most just replace it.

Update: I bought a new Time Delay Module, installed it and hit the key. The tractor started up! A quick and easy fix. The parts guy at the dealer said 95% of the time that when there is no spark at both plugs this is the problem. Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the update --- a lot of the time, we never do get the final resolution. Nice to get it and Congrats.

I have an early 345 with out it. Sometimes when I start it it only runs on one cylinder. Since I do not have the module, Any idea what the problem could be? I have heard or read that it may the plastic cam gear. What about the ignition module? Thank you.

OK this is a little confusing. Does it always run on just one cylinder? Or do both of them work after the engine is started?

Have you checked compression?

No, I have not checked compression. I go out and sometimes I start it and it starts right no problems at all and runs great all day. Start and stop no worries. Other times I go out and it does start up on BUT it is only running on the right #2 cylinder. Now, I did have an issue this spring in which my battery light was flickering on and off. I checked everything I could and found the starter was shorting out internally. I took the starter out and tore it down completely. It was packed with dust and crap. I put it all back together and it worked great. When I was putting it back, I did somehow, put pressure on the igintor box and it broke off one of the corners. I sealed it back up with silicone and it has been fine. In the past 6 weeks, it has started doing what I explained. Starting but only running on one cylinder. Having not worked on it for a while, I did forget about the crack or broken corner on the ignitor. It only broke the plastic housing and not the internals.
I am guessing at this point the ignitor has crapped out. What do you think.
