John Deere rep going to take tractor

H*ll,

I would have hauled it into the JD dealer on my way home, hopped out and gathered all of them around and said, "Check out my new tractor! Saved a TON of money too! I guess that GREEN PAINT sure gets expensive!"

I've done that a couple of times with car dealers. After getting snubbed or jerked around at dealer X, gone to dealer Y and done a deal. Then stop by dealer X on the way home with my new truck or car. Don't really care if it teaches them anything or not, but it sure is self-rewarding.

Glad you found a machine you wanted at a good price. The truth is there are a lot of good tractors out there.

In all fairness to dealers, I do have to mention one time that poor salesmanship saved me from a calamity.

In 1984, I went into the local Pontiac dealership and wanted to buy a brand new Fiero. I was quite clear in my intent, I said I wasn't shopping around, I want to BUY that car TODAY.

The entire sales staff was watching some football game on TV and nobody could be bothered to make the sale. Obviously, their game was more important.

I left.

As it turned out, the Fiero was a complete turkey with constant engine fires, thrown conrods, etc., and I was actually much better off without one. Of course, there was no way to tell that in 1984.

Many years later, I happened to encounter a guy who worked in a supplier for GM. Seems GM decided to pay for the connecting rods BY WEIGHT, so the supplier sent out all kinds of defective parts, parts that had failed QC, anything so the crates would be heavier and they'd get paid more.

What could possibly go wrong?

Best Regards,

I have been in several different color dealerships looking at tractors and not only did anyone ever come outside ,When i went inside i was ignored by employees talking to each other, or by salesman so that i walked out without a word from anyone. Unfortunatly i have had this happen at gun shops also.
So last time I went into a dealer for the first time there was no one on the floor just one person at the parts counter and I asked if someone could show me a tractor because the doors were locked and they said they'd find someone. Sales guy showed up a few minutes later and asked what I was interested in and I told him which tractor and I just wanted to get in it and he asked a few questions about if I had a tractor and what I wanted this one to do. He handed me keys and said take it for a spin and let him know if I had questions. Kind of won my business even though he didn't come out with me that time.

That's me. I only want salesman contact when needed, as in access to said tractor. I'm not into pressure sales.

Many years ago I worked for an electronics company. They had a deadline to meet on a delivery and they were not ready. So, they shipped a box with rocks in it. It failed the incoming functional test and was returned for warranty work. That gave the company more time to finish the development. So, it's not just car or tractor companies.

I wonder where the real issue comes from it seems RV, autos, tractor dealers all seem to employ a bunch of jerks, not all mind you but I wonder where the issue come from. Is it the commission based income? lion, macho attitude, bad customers What makes dealing with this group of people such a pain.

I know a local RV place that everyone that works that day is part of the commission for all sales that day are split. So every sales person is working together VS for each other. Customers are free to work with anyone and according to my friend is a great place to buy from, no personal experience past looking at this location.

Well took a lot of your advice, and said forget it to John Deere! Got some bids from different companies and saved 5000.00 on the tractor, loader, backhoe, mower. Got the 84 month 0% financing for no extra charge on it ether! Plus ssqa instead of the Jdqa, so it will work with some of my smaller QA attachments. Way better customer service also!
Glad you found a tractor and hopefully this experiance was better.

Enjoy your new machine and don’t forget to send pictures to the other dealership with your thank you note, for showing you how a customer should not be treated!

Under 50HP, it is.

And worldwide, Mahindra is kicking their butts handily.

I worked in middle management Sears for many years. I warned them about their complacence and arrogance. They didn't listen. They doubled down.

Deere is reacting in a similar fashion.

Mahindra, chip-chip, Kubota, chip-chip, Korean Tractors chip-chip-chip

It's just a matter of time.

I can hear the scoffs in the background.

News-Flash, people. At one time, Sears was the 4th largest company on Earth and employed the most people of any company on Earth.

The bigger a Company gets, the more 'inbred' it gets. They promote like-thinkers, get-along, go-along types.

Another arrogant Illinois Company doomed by its own blindness
Fact !!

The factory I worked in produced hvac valves for Chrysler and Ford. Millions and millions.

I had a fairly unique union QC job, there were about 10 of us out of a couple thousand employees? We had the ability to stop the line/machine, regardless what the foreman said. I don't remember it ever coming to that but lots of arguments!

So happened my old high school buddy had just graduated from college and got an office job at the plant i worked at.

My buddy explained that we had a contract that required we ship x # of valves per week or breach contract so.....

We would ship rejected parts every once in awhile just so we could say, we met shipping requirements.

Just more BS.
