I agree.. you need a rough cut mower... 2' tall grass is thick stuff.

I mow with a 95hp tractor and a JD 1517 batwing.. if I hit 3' grass.. I will take an rpm hit and have to give it foot throttle to keep her rpm's up ( plenty of power available to do so.. but I wouldn't if I was using a 40-50-60 hp machine. ).

IMHO.. I'd buy a used batwing.. and then find a used ag tractor to run it.. stuff inthe 75-135 hp can be had under 10k$ and a used mower can go from 1500$ to 6500$.

I picked up my used 1998 JD 1517 from a horse farm.. it was WELL used.. but in decent order.. cost me 2000$ plus another 500$ to fix er' up and about a month of sweat equity.

if you want all this new... I hope you got deeeeeep pockets...

I agree on the deep pockets, the last new bat wing with bells and whistles I looked at was over $1,000 per foot width.

Ditto that.. same thing i say.. 12K to 16K for a 15' cutter.

Like buying anything used... go look at it.. ask to use it maybee..

I bought mine used from a horse farm.. a big expensive horse farm that buys all new mowers and tractors ever few years. It had lots of dings.. and plenty of welded on fixes and patches.. but i also say -well- rebuilt parts that mattered.. like one gearbox was new..e tc. blades were average.. tires were old but held air.. price was right. more importantly, while waiting for the foreman to come down with the sales reciept, i talked to the mechanic that worked on all the equipment. AQfter 10 minutes of talking to him and touring the shop.. I knew I was getting a good machine.

When i got home I took all the gear box covers off.. I couldn't tell the difference from the insides of the old boxes vs the new box...

no leaks.. and it's been a good mower since.

The 15' one I tested (A Frontier) went for almost 15K new. The dealer would have given it to me for $7500. It definitely needed some adjustments (minor) but was in overall pretty decent shape.

Still a lot of $$$ for a mower.

I've seen em as low as 1000-1500.. but needing alot of work.. and up to about 4500$ n useable condition. i considdr my 2000$ unit a good deal i walked into.

So what is the minimum you need for that batwing? Sounds like 95 HP works with no problems, would 75HP struggle??

I have 75hp at PTO with my JD 5525 and it does fine.

I would not a light weight tractor in front of that mower in anything but level ground.
