Hello JD people.

Tonight I heard some good news in my book. A past student of mine is working as a JD engineer in south central Wisconsin told me as we talked of his work that JD is phasing out building the 4000 to 6000 series cuts over seas. He said after years of trouble dealing with the currancy markets and quality control issues they are even starting to build there own engines in the US. Yanmar will see less and less of their work. He has always been a very capable and straight forward young man. JD has a good engineer working for them.

I am a kubota owner and had to tell him that but he had no issue with it or the quality they offer. I was happy to hear of the move back to US manufacturing by JD.

BTW- he rebuilt my 442 W30 olds engine for me while he was a college student and did a fine job of it.

Good luck to all you JD owners.

The John Deere 4000 series cuts are assembled in Augusta Georgia....the engines are Yamnar . The JD 4100 was made in Japan, but the rest of the 4000 series were assembled in the states.
I am not aware of a JD 6000 series cut.

Yarg,

Yes Deere is moving alot of the 4000 series back to here. The 6000 series is currently built in Germany. I haven't heard that it was being moved back. The reason it is made over there is because 70% of the sales of 6000 series are in Europe.

Cactus,
You are wrong about most of the 4000 series. The new 20 series is built in the US with a Deere engine, drivetrain, and most of the parts. The older 4000 series were just assembled here.

I just wanted to pass on the good news he offered up. I think it is good that JD is looking at producing and assembling more of it's lines in the US. He did not say all of every line is scheduled to do this, just a general statment that more of this is coming. He specializes in engine design at this time. He said he likes working for JD.

I do not know alot about JD production but have read a few posts about the production and design work.

Produced, assembled and sold in the US is a good thing!

I was referring to the older 4000 series IE: such as the: the 4400 are assembled in Augusta with a Yamnar engine and the same for the 4410 .I know that the 4020 have the John Deere power tech engine the same engine that goes in the skid steer. Other than the Power tech engine is the rest of the tractor anymore American made than the older 4000 series ???
Where are the fenders hood seat and stuff made at here in the states, the drive train etc? Other than the Power tech engine going into the the 4020 series is everything else stamped made in the USA ? I do not know. I do have a bearing out of my JD 4400 that went around the PTO shaft that was stamped made in Russia...

I know allot of their loaders are built in Canada and it seems their backhoes are built right here in the US of A.

I agree !!

I was disappointed to see my brand new 300CX loader embossed with "Made in China".

This is unfortunately unavoidable. The last ball-bearing plant in the USA closed around 10 years ago. We do not make ANY ball bearings in this country anymore /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif.

Is this true??? If so I'm sticking with my 4410 and the 430 loader made in the good ol' upper USA (Canada) /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

VTer,
My understanding is that only the cast pieces are made in China for the 300cx loader. China has a long history of doing good, and inexpensive, industrial casting. I believe much of the rest of the loader is manufactured in the USA and Canada. With regard to others' thoughts about being "Made in USA," John Deere has long considered itself a worldwide company, but having travelled overseas on some occasions, I have noted that it is still recognized as a US company. On a cycling trip to France last year, we passed a JD dealer in Albertville, FR while riding. One of those in the group (from Belgium) commented that "those are made in Illinois, USA." Even though most of the tractors on the lot were probably made in Mannheim, it was still nice to hear this. This fact is also bolstered by companies like Tuff-Torq/ Kanzaki building supply facilities here to better accomodate John Deere. I can live with some overseas parts and components, provided it helps maintain the financial integrity of such an American institution. I suppose such is the situation in the "worldwide economy."

Hey Jcmseven, have you done any riding in Michigan?

So is my new 4310 and 430 FEL built right here in the lower 48 except for the engine?

The key word is "assembled". Your 4310 was "assembled" in GA from componets sourced from around the world. For instance, the seat assembly comes from Vietnam.
The 430 Loader comes from the Welland Works in Ontario.

I think that's great! They get the view of me they deserve. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

John - You are correct in that the only the castings state Chinese origin. I did not see place of origin marked on any of the other loader components.

I will be interested to see where my MX-5 cutter was manufactured. It's sitting at the dealer but not too useful for snow removal.

So in reality are the 4020 series really assembled and not made in the states ?? Just assembled with a few more American parts than the 4010 and 4000 series ( IE: Power Tech engine)

/ John Deere US built? #19
The entire drive train is now US made. That includes the engine, transmission, axles, and wheels. I know alot of the electronics are here too. I'm sure there are some parts that are not US made but the heart of the tractor sure is. I'd say that's the most important part of the tractor.

Not questioning your post /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif....but where can I see that in writing ?? I would be interested to see it...it would settle a lot of discussions where I work....

But it has a Vietnam made seat....wheres the steering wheel made ? Wheres the fenders made ??Wheres the hood made ???? The bearings are foreign made ....Wheres the levers made ??? How do you verify where they are made ???
Does the Power Tech engine have any foreign parts in it ???
Foreign made electronic parts ??? Yep sounds 100 % American made to me......You got me convinced .... /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
