John Deere X series lawn tractor

But the times when traction is lost, just turn the wheels a bit and new traction is found. I mow a lot of steep ground and truthfully don't recall when was the last time I put the locking diff pedal down. That is over 17-18 years and I mow 6 acres of lawn.

I have a hilly yard and pull a 900 lb lawn roller with my X500. I use the diff lock quite a bit when going up the hills. I just cannot imagine AWS being a substitute for a locking diff when maximum traction is required.

Are getting all wheel steer and All wheel drive confused, in typical x3xx All wheel steer, you only have drive power going to one wheel, with John Deere you have to get into X7XX series to get into all-wheel drive

Getting back to HRSx2 - Good for you being able to see X590. Makes it much easier to make intelligent decision on what tractor is right for you , basically the X570 and X500 are same machine- if going through gates or storage isn’t a problem, I’d look at 54 inch deck, it will save you time mowing 5 acres
X570 vs x590- both of course would come with 4 year ( 500 hour) warranty, and John Deere promise. K72 tranny – x570 has 24Hp Carbureted Kawasaki engine With X590 for extra 1000 bucks you get better engine Kawasaki 25.5HP EFi engine, Constant speed governor ( very difficult to “bog down” )better high back seat, HDAP tires standard, tilt steering wheel, Hydraulic lift and the biggie with 5 acres to mow power steering. Nobody thinks they need Power steering until they drive a tractor with PS- then you would never want to go back. Much less fatigue with power steering. Plus hydraulics is nice if you are ever going to use implements such as tillers etc

Both tractors will easily handle your mowing needs, and of course both come with free financing for 12 months or 4 point something financing for 4 years. Up to you to decide if going used( saves a lot of money) is better option than new- both have their advantages

Thanks for the specs. I'll know better about the condition of the used one, hopefully, today. Missed calls yesterday but did get response in email. Sounds like they still have x500. The dealer who has a distribution hub is one I purchased a small planter from 4 or 5 years back. I purchased an older Ford belly mower 4 years ago and mower soon broke. Should have put that money in something else but then again hindsight is 20/20. The there was $1500 on a big box mower that may have lasted two years. So five years, out $5,000 with nothing to show for it. Education certainly isn't cheap. Is it? So $4k is a starting point for round two. Well have to see if an extra 2,000 would be needed to stop the bleed. Thanks again.

For a nice lawn I prefer the x7xx series with hydraulic front wheel drive to the scut with mfwd. The four wheel steer makes a huge difference when turning up hill too, just eliminates a lot of the strain on the engine and drive train.

Today while working a customers lawn I pulled in 3,000 ft. of drip irrigation tubing with my subsoil plow/with sweep. Glad I had the x749 for this job. Will be installing about 10,000ft. total plus making up the connections by the end of next week. The large compacts were just too big to use for this job working between the trees.

So if you need something to handle lawn mowing and maintenance I would suggest you give the x7xx series a hard look. Once I have a lawn completed I prefer to keep the larger tractors off the grass unless absolutely necessary.

What are you mowing? I think long ago you posted you mow 3 acres-- is that still the same property? Does it have hills, slope, etc that might benefit from the locking differential in the x5XX and above series? And do you expect to use any attachments, also pushing you toward the x5XX or larger series? My mowing needs are less-- only about a half acre, mostly flat. Although there is one sloped area we never even tried to do with our old Craftsman mower. It was too tippy and with no locking differential. I think my needs are less than yours-- more in the x3XX class, but I'm not sure. x5XX class would probably be overkill for me- I don't intend to use any of the attachments. If I did expect to use attachments, I'd skip the x3XX series and be shopping for the x5XX class minimum. I was sold on the x380, which is a great machine, until I learned about a new Husqvarna model for 2017. The Husky GT48DXLS has a 24 hp Kawasaki engine, K66 transaxle, and electric locking differential-- for under $3k. They have bigger deck sizes but I want 48" as I will probably add a cyclone rake in the future. Fortunately I have good dealer support, as the dealer who handles the GT models is the same dealer I have bought many Stihl products from. I have not bought anything yet, but need to decide soon.

Sorry to be off topic. Do you have a link or more info on the husky model? I do not see that model on their website?if those are the specs I think I would buy that. I currently am looking at a cub cadet x2 GX54. It is $3300 and only has the k58. Thank you in advance for any info you have.

When I went into the local JD dealer to pick up my dads 445 I looked at there selection of X tractors, they went up to the X700 series and honestly I wasn't a huge fan of the redesign vs the 400 series late 90’s and early 2000s. The 445 my dad has, has a true liquid cooled VTwin Kal, the motor in the new x500-x700s looks like a B&S motor even know they claim it's a Vtwin Kal still. I believe the 500 series was air cooled also but I remember the 700 series being liquid cooled.

I hate there new hood, I love the 3 piece of the old 400 series, the VTwin in those old 400 series were a solid 2+k hour engines, my dads broke 1000 hours last season and it's been in the shop once, it was in the shop for a hydraulic leak where the deff lock goes in the wet rear, it was a pain in the azz to get to so we said screw it and had the dealer do it, $15 in seals and 2 hours labor.

I currently use a GT husky with 24hp and 54in deck, I picked it up used with 200 hours on it for $800 off CL, that being said it doesn't hold a candle towards my dads 445.

JD makes a fine Garden Tractor, but from what I have seen of there 300 and even lower 500 series tractors, either JD has cheapened there product or Husqvarna has closed the gap, those aren't built much heavier than my GT is.

If I had the money I would be buying a 700 series tractor, I wouldn't gain much of an advantage with anything less, my mowing time wouldn't be improved much, the JD might last longer but it's also way more expensive.

Best bang for your buck would be spending $1500-$3500 on a used 445 with under 1000 hours on it, I didn't see much of a difference in the 700 series from the 445, 4x4 455 would be epic.

My dad paid $8500-$9000 for his 445 in 1999, that's about what the 700 series are bringing today, so price wise they have come down on price if you enter inflation ext.

Another silly post- what is it with this forum? a 445 was a great machine in its day ( 20 years ago) still many going strong- have nothing bad to say about them- but they are not as good as today’s X7xx series machines- and this poster claims Deere is lying about selling a Kawasaki in them- poster needs to buy a clue? Don’t try to compare a 3k husky to a John Deere X7xx series. If you don’t think you would gain anything- you are posting in wrong forum- look for one called la-la land

Ok. After all, I just made the purchase of a new x380 with brush gard and 10p cart. Price point was what I was willing to pay. After pondering the facts just decided against spending more. Also, I am a little shy of used since dealers are so far away. If local I may have felt differently. The cart is actually for giving the three littlest ones a ride around the yard. I hope this will satisfy desire to ride with daddy. We will see how it holds up. It looks to be more of a man than my last mower. Thanks for all the insight. I enjoyed reading what you all had to say.

Mine is rather straight forward. Trailoring between three locations. Mowing about 4 to 5 acres. Want tractor to last a good while. Trired of buying big box stuff. Zero turn is out. Wife wants to play some too and she likes the tractor.

Congrats on your new X380. Hopefully it will be able to handle the 4 to 5 acres. With TLC will probably last 10-20 years.
