Jonn Deere 430 and 210 questions

I have a john deere 430 lawn tractor and I am wondering if an aftermarket fuel pump can be used to replace the inline pump, has anyone used a different pump with success and if so what pump was used. Thanks a lot, just repainted, installed new tires, gave her an oil, air & fuel filter and she won't start, bled the fuel system, replaced the pump with an ebay purchased one but no luck, John Deere wants $350 plus for a replacement pump, also looking for a Kohler motor for a 1978 210 lawn & garden tractor. Which Kohler engine? 10 hp?

I have a complete rebuild Kohler 8hp that is available. New block, piston, the works. But don't think that is what you want.

What is part number of the pump you are looking for? Are you certain the problem is the pump?

What's great about Deere is you can still get tons of parts for these older machines. A quick search shows me your a bit off on pricing for the 430 fuel pump, pricing looks to be a bit over $100, or of course you can re-engineer with something else.
