The joystick for my NH 250TL loader on my TC45DA has stopped lower the loader except when in the float position.

What is a likely cause and how to rectify the issue?

Is the joystick directly mounted to the valve or are there cables between the joystick and valve body.

My first thought if remote with cables is that the cable is out of adjustment or something in the linkage is loose.

If I remember correctly it is directly attached.

The float position is in front of the lower portion, so you have to go through the lower position to get the joystick to the float position.

If directly attached I would carefully remove or slide the protective rubber boot up to confirm the movement of linkage and valve spool.

Question should have asked on previous post is: did it lock into detent position for float?

I think so, but will have to check to be certain.

My joystick has worked loose so it rotates, but it doesn’t affect its performance though.

Reason for asking about locking into float is that if linkage has worked loose pushing lever like going into float could be putting into normal lower position.

Also look closely at exposed portion of spool for both lift & curl. Is there a similar amount of spool exposed on both?

It locks into the float position see first picture.

Here are some pictures of the joystick connection and it looks normal.

since it locks into float detent the spool has to move past normal lower. If you hold joystick in normal lower position do you see the loader try to move. I.e. do the hoses stiffen and sound like pressure it at relief valve setting? It should do all the above.

If you try to feather the loader so moves very slowly will it lower?

Everything points towards a failing quick disconnect with exception of oil must pass through quick disconnect to lower.

This is an unusual failure mode..

I think it was shuttering slightly in the lower position.

Hadn’t noticed the hoses when trying, but will check them out.

Also, in the neutral position (no movement position) the loader has started raising slowly like 1/8” to 1/4” per minute.

I yanked on the couplers and neither pair felt loose, but I hadn’t thought of one failing.

Raising slowly would point towards the spool not centering properly which can be caused by linkage binding or the centering spring assembly being full of crud or depending on style coming apart. Spring assembly is located under cover on end opposite the joystick.
If, repeat if my memory is correct the lower and float is operated by pulling the spool towards the joystick. If this is correct then when in spring center home position both spools should extend out of valve housing the same distance. Again looking at pictures it looks like one may extend farther than the other but could easily be optical illusion.

I would 1st try lubing all the ball joints on the joystick control. The pictures may be deceiving but they looked dry to me.

Chatter could also indicate a failing quick disconnect. When they fail they can act like a check valve or flow restriction. The spring in one of the halves could be getting weak or spring keeper might have moved. Typically QD is a non repairable item.
