It might be time to start writing letters to JD before it is out of warranty.

If your terrain is so rough - perhaps you should consider a rear finishing mower.

D.

I did talk with JD 1 800 # said its up to the field rep what they are going to do. He said if it fails again they would determine if "HE" wanted to cover it under warranty.

My yard is not perfect but it is not even close to rough. It has been tilled up with a 5' tiller behind a 3000 Ford tractor and reseeded about 8-10 yrs ago.

Maybe it is time to meet with the field rep.

Have you been able to determine what is actually
happening to the pins that break?
Is there lateral pressure breaking that circle clip?
or did it get pulled out by something?

My thoughts exactly, been watching this thread for some time now, I would check the guage wheels for freeplay, their alignment with deck and examine the circle clips after some use for wear. Also abnormal vibration from deck.

Otherwise I would install some bolts with nylocks and cut some grass.:D

This thread is nothing short of AMAZING!!! On the surface it appears to be one of the most - if not the single, most - simple problems I can recall... cotter keys, clip or circle pins mysteriously come out of the deck pins and viola - the deck falls down!!

How can that possibly KEEP happening!!???!! And no other significant damages - bent mower blades, bent mower blade pully shaft, broken bearings, blown belts - nada, zip, zilch...

If nothing else - the dealer rep should hold a seance or drench the tractor in crow's blood! I think the tractor's is cursed! And the OP should have a new zero-turn mower delivered to his doorstep.

Then we can all move on.... and the next guy will have a great 2520 with nylock nuts on the deck!! :D

All I can say is that the OP has MUCH more patience then I. I would have already dropped it off at the dealer, called John Deere HQ and told them that the tractor was at the selling dealer's location and that there would be no more payments made until the situation was resolved to my satisfaction. Oh and I'd let them know that my lawyer had been officially retained in case it got that far. There is just no excuse for a company which is as large and "supposedly" as reputable as JD to have let this go on for this long without a resolution that made the customer happy. I wish I could fast forward to the end of this novel to see how it all turned out. :p

Thats a good idea but the tractor is paid for. I have told the dealer to keep it, but when they get done working on it, the tractor shows back up.

The end of this novel is I am stuck with the Junk Deere. Warranty is out.........the field rep did say VERBABLY that when the deck has problems again he would decide if he wanted to cover it under warranty. No I could not get anything is writing. Everybody knows what that means.

My experience with Deere with an out of warranty problem was good. In Feb 08 my 110 was 3 years old with low hours (about 250 as I recall) on it and I had a major failure of the mfwd axle with commercial use I was well out of the warranty period but since the hours were so low they still paid half of the repair bill.

If you can keep it pleasant while speaking with the field rep I bet he will take care of the problem. I think the problem appears a little dubious and no one seems to understand why it keeps happening. I am sure the dealer and field rep would be glad to fix it to alleviate your concerns.

I did that with a water softner and can tell you from experience all you get is a bad credit rating and NOTHING to show for it.

It is amazing to me that other people are not have the same problem. I had a 62" deck on my 2210 and I a couple problems with it, but they were my fault. I learned that having a machine you use as a tractor very often at all should not have a mid mount deck unless you are prepared to take it on and off on a regular occassion. Which I started doing after I broke the 3 point lift arm thingy.
