You misunderstood.

If he pays $500 to fix a saw.....and then is only able to "get his money back out" IE...only sell for $500....what's the point in having repaired? You gain NOTHING for the hassle. Just pitch it...or get a few bucks selling it doesn't a parts saw.

You are correct in that I gain nothing but I also LOSE NOTHING. Plus I do not need to come up with an additional $600 ($1100 - $500) to get a 70cc saw back in the rotation. So to that extent I GAIN.

Edit
I just checked CL and there are two used 441s in Spokane for $785 and $675. So maybe I do GAIN from my $500 investment.

We've got 6 acres....lots of trees...mostly alders....my 15 year old Craftsman chain saw finally bit the dust...not worth fixing.....did some research...looked at some Stihls....ended up getting an Echo CS 400 18 inch bar.....dropped 11 trees a couple days ago....biggest was about 16 inches at base....probably near 60 ft. tall....that Echo handled everything I threw at it...easy to start....a lot more quiet than my old saw.....really well made. I do not need professional saw....bought this one for $299. I bet it will outlast my old Craftsman. Got all the trees limbed and bucked over the last two days....lots of wood for next year.

2159 needed the carb fix Scott Kunz tells about in video.

Like new still. Needs the updated intake clamp etc. But was still tight with hardly any use on saw.

Chain brake was set off saw. Showed him 3 ways to reset. I use 2 of them and did it.

I don't do pictures....that is my wife's department. If you want to see the saw....just google Echo CS 400 18. Lots out there.

I love those little Homelite XL saws. If you have the older version with points find yourself an old style Homelite 25cc or 30cc weedeater or blower and steal the coil, strip the saw down and bolt the coil on and continue on with life, works slick... I have one with a 16" bar, think I got it for $5 and it would cut 2" into a log before it would jam from the chain being sharpened so badly... I need my shop, get all my chainsaws in one place and working... really want to see that old 85CC McCulloch go...

Yeah, those are decent saws, made from mid 70s to early 90s. I had a points version, which I also upgraded to electronic ignition by swapping a later coil module. Also, the best ones had magnesium cases, versus the later plastic, from 10" to 16" bars. There is a version with 2 triggers as well. I have had about 6 or 7, total.

I even had a chainsaw winch (Walt's Game Reel) in the mid-90s, which used a tophandle XL for the power unit.

Got lucky on the nice parts saw I took in for some labor on a saw.

I could hear the rattle in the muffler. Didnt care myself. Parts are parts to me.

Anyhow #5 is a runner now too. Still need to run all new lines though.

54cc chrome bore. I wouldnt trade these for a 346 5100 260. That how good there are. ;)

That bolt probably keeps the carbon buildup down.

Dads poulan 3300 54cc he bought new in 1993 is cleaned up and ready for the shelf. Just purrs like a kitten idling forever and turns into a mad hornet.

Will just get it down from time to time to use and keep it going.

Made me smile and feel good about it.

Now to finish that little mac TH 130 I hated with a passion. Bought new in 79-81

Before then cleaned up

I had one of those for years, but finally ditched it when I bought my 254 Husky. The biggest flaw was the lack of a chain brake; once I upgraded I won't run a saw without one.

I do wish that I had kept the Homelite and hooked it up with a Lewis Winch
Lewis Winch 4 MK2 | Portable Chainsaw Winch | Portable Winch
though.

Used Stihl MS461’s seem to sell for $850. I think the current new price is around $1150.so call it 75 percent of new.

Still trying to figure out new vs used. Lot of money either way, but the Ms271 works hard on the bigger trees and really struggles at milling.

Not around here they dont. 50% of new price and up down on condition. Some more some less.

This saw sold for new for $600 before tax. I just sold it for $350. I like quick sells and not storing saws though. I'm not out after every frigging dollar like some folks are it seems. Like someone would at 850 on a 461 IMHO.
