Echo and Shindiawa merged to form Yamabiko corporation. Dec 2008.

IMO the Shin design and saws saved echo. You can buy them in red too under shin name. Least some of the better selling ones in US. Chainsaws | Shindaiwa-USA.com

What I find somewhat interesting is, the Echo is almost an exact copy of the Japanese Tanaka (no longer made), top handle arborist saw, right down to the air cleaner cover. I believe Makita bought Tanaka and discontinued the saws but I could be wrong. My buddy has one (Tanaka top handle), nice saw. It certainly was a lot less than the Stihl top handle that I crushed.
If I could get a Tanaka saw from a local dealer I would buy it in a heartbeat. They made good quality trimmers. I feel like their saws would be as good also.

All I see anywhere are parts, no complete saws. I know my buddy will never part with his. I believe once Makita absorbed them, that was the end for their saw line.

The Echo could be an exact copy actually.
