To cool. A guy I know in my group. Told me he was racing my old MVP race ported dolmar 166 pipe saw on Sat in KY.
In a vintage hotsaw class.

He took 1st place with it.

He was only one for 3 cuts to cut in the 2's.


I got to watch the video.

The story goes way back how I know him.

I used to race at his mom and dads event in KY. His dad was the KY state champion at the time RIP. He used to kick my butt when he was on other end of log in hotsaw.
I knew OP only as a little kid back then.

Trying to figure out the other vintage hotsaws that was there. Besides my old sachs dolmar 166.
One was a homelite 750 piped.
Older jonsered piped, couldnt tell which. Wasnt a 111 I dont think.
Husky 2100's piped,
PP 655 BP piped,

One is the 750 that was ran and other one that runs in NY.

The dirty 750 was before the restore done and go through on it to refresh. It's in OH

That 440 cylinder has a couple high spots in it from piston smacking the roof.

Ran a couple test pistons in it and always got tight.

So ran a coated new piston in to see where.

Doing some maintenance on my Dad's 024AV (tag says 1979). Compression is a little low(115ish), so I was going to put new rings in it, as well as new AV rubber, hoses, filter, plug etc.

I pulled the cylinder off. This saw has only 1 ring on the piston.
Was looking at a 024AVS (Super) parts saw I have. It has a 2 ring piston. FYI, I got the disassembled parts saw from a shop, for spare parts for Dad's saw, which is sentimental for me...

Is 1 ring vs 2 rings a big deal? Dad's saw has worked well with the 1 ring piston for decades.

The piston and cylinder look fine. Cylinder has wear, but can still see some cross-hatch from hone. I know the history of the saw since new, it has never had parts changed besides basic maintenance, bar/chain.

I run alot of 1 ring pistons. It is no big deal. In a 372 I prefer the 1 ring pistons.

Just clean up and use new ring. Long as you think piston is still good to go on the skirts etc.

83cc pistons shown for same saw. 1 ring or 2 ring. Most came with 1 ring piston.

1 ring will be a 1.5mm I bet on your saw too.
